Ineffective leaders need to improve

in #career5 years ago (edited)

Most ineffective leaders simply do not think their way through many issues. The problem is not that they are inexperienced or lack experience in many areas of leadership, but rather they simply do not think of their decisions through carefully thought out processes. All decisions need to be explored in many ways and decided upon very carefully before they are put into action. Leaders need to learn the skills to integrate the many thoughts and considerations that the outside world might throw at them. You need to come to your decision slowly and consciously. Otherwise you may let the circumstances overwhelm you.

Poor decision making may result from failure to understand how the underlying business and human issues at work intersect with a decision maker's ability to assess, analyze, and act on the situation. Good decision making results from being able to understand the underlying causes, motivations, and implications for the best possible outcome of a given decision. It is the ability to react and adapt within the context of the situation to the needs of those present, as well as the ability to think and act quickly and solve problems with appropriate sound judgment that enable a decision maker to be effective.

Many are lacking political judgment to be effective. They might be too easily influenced by the prejudices, biases, or other motives of a powerful group or ideology. They might lack competence. They might be not easily dissuaded from bad decisions and would tend to punish their followers or be unwilling to reward loyal followers.

A leader who has been ineffective in his or her job should examine, not second guess or question, what might be causing that. Does he or she need to improve his or her job performance skills? Does he or she have an employer who recognizes and rewards skills that lead to decision making and accomplishment? No doubt many of the individuals who work in leadership positions have some level of college or even graduate training. However, this training is not as comprehensive or in depth as one would hope it to be

If leaders don't continuously improve their leadership skills, they run the risk of failure. Practice leadership every day. Pay attention to your own thoughts and feedback. Learn the right way to do things, and practice it to perfection. Leaders need to become better with people. They must take in all the training and coaching they can. They need to know how to treat each person with respect and compassion. Use time management to work efficiently.

The Undisciplined Leader is prone to mis-judgment and lack of analysis, providing simple answers to complicated questions, and providing little value to others. To achieve this goal, leaders are often re-trained in a variety of different areas in order to become knowledgeable on the topics. As the workload changes the entire organization must adapt its systems to meet these new tasks. The implementation of these new systems can be a time consuming process that can take weeks or even months.
