Maintenance Expenses 2017 : Peugeot
The lion at its den @ Peugeot HQ Glenmarie
Like humans, to live a healthy lifestyle, we need to have a periodic checkup at the doctors to make sure our body is in tip-top condition, so that we can do our everyday tasks without any niggles and hiccups. So do cars, they also require maintenance to keep them running on the road fuss-free. Some requires less maintenance, some requires more maintenance than others. In this post, I would like to share the maintenance cost and all the expenses that was done to the Peugeot 308 CC to make it road-worthy.
- 100,000 KM Service - 24 Jan 2017
Early this year (around January), the car had done its 100,000KM regular service interval. Apart from that, few complaints was highlighted. Also, Peugeot is having a recall on all their model to replace certain components in the car, for my unit, it was these parts that was in need of replacement.
Once the car is ready for collection, I was given a quotation list on what parts that needed to be changed as per highlighted to them during the service, which is the suspension items and the OBD connector. The OBD connector fault was due to the main wiring harness being shot, thus requiring a change which will cost RM 13,700. So I said no, just leave it as it is. Nevermind the check engine light
Total cost : RM1200
2. Suspension repairs - 14 March 2017
We could not stand with the noise that the suspension makes when the car is on the road, it makes an annoying noise even when driving on a perfectly smooth roads. Decided to bring the car for repairs at a well known Peugeot specialist workshop - Clayton Auto Parts.
It took them about a day or two to get everything fixed, meanwhile, I spotted a very cool looking Peugeot RCZ in the vicnity of the workshop
comment below to give your opinion whether do you like this wrap or not.
The list of parts that has been changed :
Not sure why the picture is a bit blurry, but here's the total parts that needs to be changed
- Front Shock Absorbers (LH/RH)
- Shock Absorber Bracket
- Front Suspension Ball-Thrust Bearing
- Front Suspension Rebound Stop
- Front Suspension Rod Protector
- Front Triangle Arm Ball Joint
- Front Triangle Arm Wishbone Bush
Total including labour : RM2310.80
3. HID Bulbs
As the car was 6 years old, the High Intensity Discharge bulbs was nearing its end of life already, the left side burned first, then a month later the driver side burned. Bought the replacement bulbs from PowerBulbs.com and had the bulb replaced by a friend of mine since I am not into DIY.
PIC: My friend William replacing the bulb, while fellow Steem-ian @aaronleang watches carefully whilst William was doing his stuffs.
Total cost (free labour this time, thanks william!) : RM370 for the pair of HID Bulbs.
4. Engine oil topup - Throughout 2017
This car has an issue of oil leaks and oil consumption, this has not been rectified as of this posting, so the need of buying engine oil is present whenever the engine oil low warning light comes on.
The dipstick shows the lack of Engine oil.
For this particular car, the recommended engine oil is the Mobil1 ESP Formula 5w-30
Had to atleast use 3 bottles of this engine oil throughout 2017.
Total : RM127
5. Yokohama Advan Fleva
The tyres on this car was in a really bad shape already since it has been a few years since it was changed. Wanted to change a set of 4 tyres but due to stock availability, only a pair can be changed. The car used to run on Ultra High Performance tyres which is Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 but I figured out that since the car spends most of its lifetime in the workshop and service centre rather than being on the road, I can make a compromise to use cheaper but still a very good set of tyres. Here's how the current set of tyres looks like, its very bad in the rain as you can probably tell
And here is the new set of Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 - the same tyres I used for the Ford Fiesta
Total : RM900 for both
6. 110,000 KM Service + Recall - 8 November 2017
pic: 3 red Peugeot's and a red interior Peugeot, what a coincidence
After getting back home from the trip to Japan, finally it was time to do another service and yet another set of recalls, this time it was the 110k KM service, this service appointment was booked around 4 month in advanced due to the Glenmarie HQ had a number of backlogged cars that needs to be worked on with.
Highlighted a few issues to the service centre which is the faulty OBD port, which then was told that they cannot do anything due to electrical items are not covered under the extended warranty, daytime running light malfunction - also has something to do with the main central wiring harness, thus that one is also non-repairable, aircond not cold - cooling coil was replaced under the recall program, oil level low - still not fixed as of today, LHS headlight too high and noise from dashboard when accelerating - not too sure whether this has been solved or not since I have not gotten the chance to test drive the car ever since collecting it..
Look at how thick was the service invoice once the car has been done, took them around 3 weeks to perform all the servicing and recall tasks. The recall for this time involves:
- Water Pump
- High Pressure Fuel Pump
- Cooling Coil
- Oil Pump Kit
- ECU Update
The total for the service this time was RM 670.
This concludes the maintenance expenses for the Peugeot 308 CC for the year 2017, the total amount spend is ...
RM 5580
The car is due for an appointment after Christmas to check on its engine oil leakage issue, in which I am hoping that it is covered under the extended warranty. Hopefully for the year 2018, the car behaves well like a healthy Lion should.

Nice to meet another pug owner on teammalaysia. We have a 308t. Gave us a lot of heart attacks when it stopped suddenly in all unlikely places. But still we love the car to bits.
Well said. This car has been on the tow truck for countless number of times, but still too sayang to sell it 😅
