Car Culture: VIP and what it means.

in #cars8 years ago

I'm shocked I haven't run into any car enthusiast posts so far on Steemit. After going to a local cars and coffee, I decided it might be a good idea to write about VIPS. VIP is a style of car that originated in japan. Examples of a VIP type vehicle include the Toyota Century, and big lexus sedans. These are examples of VIP's in the car culture today:

The idea behind the VIP style is not to be purposeful or fast, it is simple: The Idea behind VIP is you want to turn heads and look fly. As you can see in the photos, these vehicles, look clean as hell. Now that we have the why out of the way, we get to the how.

Step 1: The first thing you want to do if you want to VIP a car is to slam it. By slam, I mean lower the vehicle via suspension mods until the body of the car is very close to the ground as you can see above. The most efficient way to do this without needing minimally invasive back surgery is to use coilovers. If you buy coilovers with built in camber plates or buy camber plates with your coilovers, you can then also dial in the camber so the car is even lower to the ground. COST(500-2000)
If you have the money, and you want to go all out on the build you can go with an air bag suspension setup. These setups use struts with airbags rather than springs, using the compressible property of gases to dampen the ride. (air makes the ride more cushy like springs on a regular setup.) The advantage of this setup is that you can adjust the ride of the car so you don't have to be dirt nasty low all the time. (cost on this : 2000+) This is more for if your vehicle is a daily driver.
Lastly to complete the basic VIP build, you must install the hugest rims that will fit in your wheel well. Preferably size 20+. We are not talking donk status wheels, but big wheels, and deep dishes are always a plus as well as 3 piece wheels. You want your wheels to pop.

Now that you have a basic build down you must be wondering, what next?
Well if you are still with me at this point in this post, you must be quite interested in VIP'ing a car. Now comes the interior mods, you want every surface in this interior to be soft and nice to the touch and sight. That means wrapped dashes, cheap looking trim panels. Installing custom seats, or having seats re-upholstered to look fly. Another popular thing to do with VIP cars is to add trays and hardwood floors, making the car fit for a true VIP.

Other things you can do is tint the vehicle very dark, get a bumpin music system, and enjoy all the attention your VIP will get.

I used to be into cars. Then I realized that I only cared about cars because my dumb ass culture convinced me that I needed a nice one to get women. Then I realized that the type of women that were attracted to guys because of their cars were ignorant, vapid, gold diggers, and I quit caring about cars so much.

All of the stuff I learned while building awesome cars wasn't a waste though. I've been able to transition a lot of those skills into the invention and prototyping of DIY green tech, stuff that actually makes the world a better place.

Well lol on the contrary, a lot of the scene now, even at meets and stuff at least where I'm from is a complete sausage fest. It sucks for the guys trying to get girls lol.

I have a few friends that are still in the scene and the sausage ratio is sad. One really has to have a love for the cars these days. If I ever accidentally get rich, I might have to find a 72 Celica and put a twin turbo 1UZFE in it, mid engine mount... I doubt it will happen though.

What type of cars were you into?

My second car was a 7 second pro street 72 t-bird, then I got a 74 New Yorker, slammed it, and put 6 -mtx 15's in the trunk, then I got a mini truck, dodge d-50. I got tired of lowriders and built a 7 second Eagle Talon, then wrecked it and went back to lowriders and got a 72 Eldorado drop top. I put a predator carb on the 500 though and that thing would waste corvettes. After I ended up selling that one for $100 because I became homeless and didn't know better, I got out of cars for a while. After a few years I built a Mercury Cougar with a blown dohc 4.6. Then I got into rock crawlers and motorcycles. The only thing I do car wise these days is post apocalyptic vehicle builds but I'm too busted up to make too much progress so I'm trying to sell everything so I can build a solar/pedal powered camper trike.
