Feline vaccination - What vaccines do cats need? [Trigger's short story]

in #cat6 years ago (edited)

After I adopt Trigger, I asked the veterinarian about what kinds of the vaccines do cat need?

She told some kinds of vaccines must to have but some kind are not necessary because some viruses can mutate such as FIP.
The categories of vaccines is up to the guys or text books and she explained by example about vaccines that recommend in Thailand ;

  1. Core vaccines are those recommended for all cats such as
    1.1 FVR or FHV-1/FCV/FPV
  • Feline panleukopenia (FPV)
  • Feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1)
  • Feline calicivirus (FCV)
1.2 Rabies - it is not in core vaccine in some text books but cats have to get this vaccine in Thailand
  1. Non-core vaccines should be administered to cats in some risks based on cat’s lifestyle
2.1 Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) that transmits between infected cats when the transfer of saliva or nasal secretions is involved, for example when sharing a feeding dish.
2.2 Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), commonly known as Feline AIDS.
2.3 Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a incurable disease caused by Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus (FIPV).
FIP is fatal disease that is the cause of Trigger's friend death about 2 weeks ago.

Pukluk - first friend's Trigger

We go to see the Feline Veterinarian when we found she ate a little bit and her stomach was enlarged.
After she checked blood values and x-ray Pukluk's abdominal area, she told the Corona virus is mutated to FIP virus.
It manifest itself in either of two forms—“wet” or “dry” that Pukluk got "wet" form occurs when fluid collects within an infected her abdomen. It grows in white blood cells.
After the veterinarian remove liquid in her abdomen, we knew that Pukluk has 0.7 gram of liquid which the real weight is only 1.9 kg. She had too much liquid in her abdomen because her immune system's response causes an intense inflammatory reaction in the tissues and is caused by damaged blood vessels in her abdomen.

However, she passed away about 2 weeks ago. She cannot come back to us. T_T

I want to share this case because I hope this information can help others.
Pukluk's veterinarian told her owners that it is not necessary to get it and it maybe urge this virus.
That true! we don't know the vaccines will urge the FIP or not but I choose to protect my cat by using this vaccine.
Trigger got the FIP vaccine about 3 months ago but Pukluk didn't get it.
Now Trigger can survive but Pukluck cannot. After this case, I and Pukluk's owner have a plan to bring our cats to get the vaccines.
Next week, we'll bring Trigger to get 'Feline Immunodeficiency Vaccine or AID' and bring Kavin(Pukluk's boyfriend) to get FIP vaccines too.
