Cats and Behavioural Scratching III

in #cats5 years ago

Scratching is natural and this is not to be intervened with, rather, it should be redirected in places that are not deemed destructive. It is a natural way of a cat and should be supported through strategic placement of scratching surfaces including posts, mats and other stimulation.

Small amounts of encouragement will help demonstrate where they are supposed to scratch and for many owners, grooming will also need to be part of the cat scratch care plan. Upon visiting a vet it is best to ask about trimming the claws of a cat using an appropriate tool. They will be able to demonstrate how to trim the claws safely until an owner is comfortable to try it themselves. Regular trimming of claws will avoid accidental scratches and damage around the house.
