Water is the "cornerstone" of life. Water is necessary for mankind. A drop of water has the power, a drop of water is necessary for everyone. Although 70% of the earth's surface is covered with water, 97.5% is salt water. Out of the remaining 2.5% of fresh water, almost 68.7% is the frozen water of ice caps and glaciers. Only one percent of the total water resources of the planet are available for human use. To date, more than 663 million people have no sources of drinking water near their homes.
In the 20th century, the use of water increased 6-fold and more than 2-fold higher than the rate of population growth. In developed countries up to 30% of fresh water reserves are lost due to leaks, and in some large cities, losses can reach 70%.
Water is a resource that people take for granted . They turn on the tap and there it is . Most do not realize the plight of the world where water is scarce . The day will come when water is treated as a commodity like oil , cotton , and other resources . The watersheds are being converted to usable areas with no regard to the impact .
