Daily Celestial Challenge- The blue dragon

in #celestialchallenge7 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone, today I'm going to take part in the #celestial challenge run by @sirknight and the topic for today is Animal Kingdom. So I'm going to be talking about the Blue Dragon.

I'm sure you probably never heard of this animal. The Blue Dragon is a specie of Sea slugs found mostly in the Indian Ocean. They can grow up to three centimeters long . Blue dragon is actually a name given to it because in water it looks like a dragon soaring through the sky.

Its scientific name is Glaucus atlanticus. They are carnivorous, feeding on smaller creatures which they paralyze with their sting. They float upside down in water due to the position of a gas-filled sac in their stomach and their blue color camouflages them in water.

They are hermaphrodites which means they possess both female and male reproductive organs.
When they want to feed on larger creatures for example the Portuguese Man O' War (a venomous sea creature which stings its prey and looks like a jellyfish). They are able to absorb the Portuguese Man O' War's venom into their tissues, store it and use later on to deliver an even deadlier sting to predators or prey.
So, they take their enemies venom into themselves, make it more concentrated and use it to make their stings stronger.
Fascinating right?

Blue Dragon sea slugs are beautiful but if you come across one, do not touch them as their sting can be quite painful to humans. So just admire these wonders of nature from afar.
Thanks for reading and many thanks to @sirknight for starting this challenge. Have a nice day.

Blue Dragon...never heard of it before now. Thanks for bringing this awesome animal to our awareness

This creature looks quite beautiful but it seems we can't touch them. From all the animal posts I've seen so far it seems the most beautiful creatures are the most dangerous.

So, they take their enemies venom into themselves, make it more concentrated and use it to make their stings stronger.

Wow! Wow.. really fascinating.

What an amazing creature, so these are found In our waters . God is so wonderful

God is truly wonderful, i never knew this animal ever existed. It looks very beautiful.
