Introduction

The world of steem is exploding right now. Users are up, voting is up, commenting is up, price is up...we are going through wave 2 of growth right now. A lot of the work that was being done quietly in the background is now coming to fruition.

Esteem, SteemQ, chainBB, Zappl, Steepshot and many others are slowly coming out to compete with steemit.com

NOTE: Just in case you are new here, all those platforms are on the STEEM blockchain. They all work in synergy. Some will display all the content found on the blockchain while other will only display the content generated on their platform.

How This Explosion Will Impact User Behaviors

One thing that I have been noticing is how much an interface can influence the way I interact with the content on the STEEM blockchain.

For example, when I am on steemit.com, I scroll and find a whole bunch of random posts...some that I am interested in and some that I'm not. Someday, I cannot find anything that grabs my attention. But it's always a fun process.

On chainBB, it's very different. I use it to stay up to date on the different projects that interest me:
EOS, bitshares, Peerplays and so on.

When I browse on chainBB, it is for a specific purpose and for discussions.

When Zappl will be released, it will be a completely different game. The number of posts will go through the roof since there will be a character limit on each posts.

From there, a lot of things will change: voting patterns, commenting patterns, resteem, etc.

I'm truly wondering how steemit.com will deal with this. It seems that the intention of steemit.com is to be the "catch all" interface.

Should an Interface Display Everything or Only What is Being Posted on Their Platform?

This is still an open question to me. It makes no sense for me, in the case of Zappl or Steepshot, to display everything on the steem blockchain. For the sake of consistency and also for the sake of an app culture, it makes sense to not display posts coming from other apps. What do you think?

In the case of chainBB, I believe this app can evolve into a massively decentralized app where each community can have it's own forum on it's own domain.

ChainBB Trail Updates

So, as some of you know, I've started a voting trail to reward people who write posts or comments via chainBB. I've been voting like a banshee! Lots of you have been benefiting from this.

Thanks to all the people who have been following the chainBB trail!

This effort has proven to bring fruit!

Conclusion

Let's keep pushing forward! Please share what you think will be the impact of multiple apps on the same blockchain and how you think it is best to move forward.

Glad to know more about chainbb. Didn't really know much about steem blockchain but now I think I have a better understanding than I was. Now I am using the chainbb platform to make this comment. Thanks for the info

This is my first comment via chainbb - I really like the interface and commend you on a really good job so far! I am loving everything about steem at the moment and cant wait to get more involved. At the moment I am trying to post as much as I can with interesting articles and info about my own projects. As a newbie without a lot of power I don't get a lot of love as yet. But I am sure that will come.

@ amexperts I need to go over and try this don't I hate this standard editor hahah

I come by completely different content when I'm using chainBB versus steemit.com, and I personally need both options to keep me interested in the chain as a whole.

The interface on chainBB is just the deeper end of the shoreline for me, while steemit.com are the waves I go surfing in when I'm not looking for anything in particular. And both have served me equally well, so far, in finding new waters I want to play in.

Depends on the platform, but for something like steepshot or zappl, definitely keep the displays separate

Platforms should use a different rewards curve. I come from twitter, I'm probably a little better at punching out 1 liners than writing long form articles. Last thing I want to do is drain the rewards pool by have a 300 steem curation trail follow me if I make 20 zaps a day, unless everyone else is doing it.

There'll be some free market arguments like everyone should be free to charge what they want and use the same rewards curve but this is highly debatable from an advanced economics perspective. I really think the devs of these apps, zappl and steepshot in particular, need to work something out with Steemit Inc. who should take this very seriously.

If we get this wrong, people will just be exploiting their big curation trails on a single photo or 1 liner and it could undermine the entire eco system

I sincerely hope you as a high stake whale can follow this issue up for the betterment of community. lately I have seen some real weird posts... from new users, earning not too bad rewards by a short post like news, single photo , etc... I have to control my desire to flag by not agreeing with rewards ... but for now, I am giving these new things some room to sort it out... if not, this is really bad signal for new and diligent bloggers. My 2 cents.

@trafalgar always a great perspective look fw to always reading more of your work big luv

I totally agree!

...unless everyone else is doing it 😁

Let me cast my mind back to a $500
Turd I saw the other day 💩

probably not when i look how many words following afterwards hihihi :-)

Thanks so much for the upvotes!
I think all of these sites based on the Steem blockchain are awesome... incredible technology that will continue to grow as more and more become aware of it!

I think ChainBB is an awesome application. I've been using it a lot and I think it has great potential. Jesta the chainbb creator is doing great things.

I have been thinking about that quite a bit actually, as Steemit is a “catch all” for everything posted via eSteem, Zappl, ChainBB etc., this means that all the Zaps and quick posts on ChainBB will make a users’ Steemit account look odd in a way and must be thought about by each user as to whether that will effect the way they post or not on some of these other apps on top of Steam. Great post as always @cryptoctopus!

Its been so great since i started using chainbb for steemit. Its been much more exciting and i like the sorting. I am addicted to chainBB

I am now using eSteem alot, mainly for comments as there will be votes for my comments.
Chainbb is another one I am using too. Since not all posts on Steemit appear on Chainbb, I have to switch among Steemit, eSteem and Chainbb quite often.
SteemQ, Zappl, and Steepshot are totally new to me, will be good if someone can let me know more about them.
I guess now the question is if all the different apps should show same amount of posts. That should be decided by the developers, based on original purposes of the apps.
