The Benjamin Franklin Schedule Challenge - Day #1

A few days ago, I decided to give Benjamin Franklin's daily schedule a try. I'll do my best to stick to it for at least the next seven days.

This is my daily report on how that's been working out for me.


6h30

I went to sleep at 23h30 last night. I'm not the only one in the house, so I find it hard to go to bed before that. Knowing myself, I set the alarm to 6h30, 6h35, 6h40, and 6h45. I get up somewhere between the first buzz and the second.

6h45

I get the coffee maker working and leave three eggs boiling on the stove. While I wait, I have a short 10-minute meditation session where I reflect on the day I have ahead of me and decide the one positive thing I want to do that's not focused on me.

Since the whole thing started because of Steemit, I decide to write an article shining some light on a few talented Steemians I've been following that just started out like me and have a low reputation.

7h00

I eat my humble breakfast and proceed to list the tasks I have for the day. I work from home on a fixed schedule from 10h00 to 16h00. The rest of the time I use to work on my personal projects.

I start working on the article that I published later, but my internet is incredibly slow. After a few unsuccessful attempts to get it working, I call the company only to learn that I had forgotten to pay last months' bill. As a result, they reduced my speed to something ridiculous until I make things right.

One hour later, I have it all fixed and am up and running again. I think I have a lot to learn with Franklin about personal organization.

16h00

I'm done with my work-work, so I can finish the article I started earlier. I spend a lot of time on editing and formatting. I guess I'm a perfectionist to a point that it really hurts my productivity. I don't think I have put up a single article that I didn't edit immediately after publishing it.

17h00

I have a break to eat something and veg out a little.

18h00

I put in a solid workout session. I've been doing only weightlifting lately, mostly compound lifts like squats, presses, and deadlifts.

19h30

I try to get more work done, but by now I don't have the mental energy to engage in anything complex. I take some time to browse Steemit/YouTube until dinner.

21h00

I have dinner and play a couple matches of PUBG. I know, that's kind of lame for a grown man. But it's also a lot of fun.

23h15

I get in bed and reflect back on my day for a bit. I've lost a lot of time and got really frustrated early in the morning with the whole internet situation, but I still managed to end the day on a positive note.


I'm feeling really good about this, and I already can see clear benefits in sticking to a schedule like this one.

I could certainly have been way more productive, but I guess that's a muscle that has been neglected for too long and needs to be exercised daily. It sure got a little stronger today.

Great job! I myself try to do a lot of the same. I had drifted away from my "scheduling" as of late, but am busting butt to get back on track. Set backs are a normal part of life. They will happen daily. How you deal with the set back is the focus, not the set back itself. You seem to have the right attitude! Keep up the good work!
