RE: Three Myths About Ex-felons and Jobs: Busted
Everyone does deserve a second chance, especially after they have served their punishment. Is it true that felons can't vote though? That seems strange to me....
While the laws vary somewhat from state to state regarding removal and restoration of voting rights, once a person has served their time AND is no longer under court supervision, they are legally eligible to vote in all the states. Many people don't know this though, so continue to believe they cannot vote ever again.
Some states restore the right to vote as soon as a person is released from incarceration, some restore them once court supervision is completed, and some require that individuals petition the court to have their rights restored (we're looking at YOU Iowa and Kentucky!).
Thanks for asking. I love questions that make me do research to find the answer. You can check here for more information regarding voting as an ex-offender.
