Nobody cares anymore!
Please excuse the title of this post, to be honest, I made it a little more dramatic so you click on, and read my post! I do think though that as a society we could be doing an awful lot more for the vulnerable, especially the homeless. If you think about it like this 212 people died of hypothermia in NY last winter, that's 212 people that could not find enough heat to keep themselves alive, and let's face that's the number of people that died because of the cold, I believe the amount that suffered because of it are 10'000s.
Every single one of us could have contributed in a very small way to help these people but we did not. How many of us walk past a cold and hungry homeless person every day when we have probably unwanted clothes, blankets, and food in our houses. I'm confident enough to say every single one of us!
I think people these days lack empathy and simply don't think about these things anymore, as they're too distracted by their new phone, or by getting home to watch an episode of the walking dead! When you think about it from the perspective that there's people freezing cold on the streets because they don't have enough clothes or are hungry and we're walking past them with houses full of clothing we don't need, it's fucked up!
Maybe the next time you leave the house you should pack a bag with some unwanted clothing and toiletries and maybe throw a sandwich in it, then pass it out to someone who looks like they need it.It could mean more than you know to the person and put a smile on their face.
It's getting awfully cold outside.
