So, like I promised, I'll be bringing lots of chess content to Steemit! This one is a little contest for 5 Steem to the first valid guess. If you'd like to see more chess content on steemit, please upvote and follow! I am still working on my absolute beginners guide to chess which I will be posting over a long period of time on steemit.

My goal is for my guide to take an absolute beginner to chess and slowly explain the fundamental concepts that you need to know to improve! Who knows if steemit will enjoy this content, but I'm going to try it anyway ! :)

Rules of the contest:

White to move and win. In other words, your moves must give white an undeniable advantage. Do not just submit one move, please explain your moves a little better: in this case, white's winning move will force a black reply, and you must prove that you see why your original move works with white's second move. Make sure you specify your moves so that it is unambiguous which piece you are moving and which square you are moving it to. If you don't know algebraic notation, you can just say something like "Queen to h4", etc.

Difficulty

I'd say this one is pretty easy for anyone rated around 1600 and above FIDE or USCF. Don't be discouraged if you can't figure it out right away - you might be the only person trying to solve it!

Update: @greer184 has solved the contest! Check out his comment for the solution. Thanks for playing =)

Sort:

Move the rook to f7, then the black queen responds by taking the pawn. Next, use the rook to take the knight on f8, forcing check. This leaves the queen exposed, and forces the king to move to save the queen rather than take the rook. Move the queen to e7 to put the king into check again. The king must move to h6. Then move to king back to f7. You have a taken a knight compared to losing a pawn and are in much superior position with the king on the defensive.

Bingo! You win the prize ! 5 Steem incoming =)

Dude, this puzzle was so cool! I am so amateur chess status but it was still fun to think about nonetheless. I look forward to your chess tutorials and more of these in the future!

Thanks! Your puzzle was also great, I put a lot of effort into it and was really shocked when it actually worked and I solved it =)

Thanks, puzzle was fun. Look forward to future puzzles and other chess content. Upvoted and followed.

rook to f7, black queen must move to h8
..or maybe queens trade, I'll think about this more ^_^

Hey alphacore. If you play Rook f7, black is going to reply Qxg6 in this case. Let me know if you have something after that =)

rook take queen and knight take rook, knight and queen for pawn and rook maybe
Does black have any way to avoid it?

If you play Rf7 for white and black responds with Queen takes g6, white's rook cannot capture black's queen. Check out @greer184's comment for the solution

oops, I must have forgot the position ^_^
glad someone solved it, I'll check that soon
thanks for fun contest, I am following now

the other move I see is inactive rook c1 to f1, preparing to break open right side by taking black pawns with queen ^_^

If you play Rook c1-f1, black has a little trick: Rook takes a2 check, king takes a2, Queen to a7 checkmate. :) Keep trying, you might get it! :)

"Move Rock From f6 to f7"
Its Will make the queen move to h8 and "move Pawn from g6 to g7"

HI, thanks for playing! In this case, if you move rook to f7, black will capture on g6 with the queen. Do you have a followup move for white, or do you want to try something else? :)
