The Chilean central bank, which is developing the design of the digital peso, announced the need for autonomous operation of the system. This is reported by CoinDesk with reference to the statement of the head of the regulator Rosanna Costa.

According to her, operations on the CBDC platform should be available online and offline. At the same time, she did not rule out that effective technologies for this may appear later.

"The system should allow the authorities to track transactions while preserving the user's personal data," Rosanna Costa said.

Among the mandatory characteristics of the digital peso, she called its security, convertibility with cash and the possibility of using the asset by commercial banks.

The head of the Central Bank promised to prepare a policy document within a week, although the final decision on the release of the digital form of the Chilean peso has not yet been made.

The probability of a pilot project will be discussed with the participation of public and private sectors at the end of 2022.

Recall that a recent BIS survey showed that nine out of ten world central banks are studying CBDC. The main factor in the attractiveness of digital currencies for regulators is to increase the efficiency of payment systems.
