THE SPIRIT BEHIND ACTIVITIES
One says, “God bless you,’ and you begin to see lines fall in pleasant places for you.
Another says, “God bless you,” and your life remains as it was… or even worse.
One sings, “We bow down and worship Yahweh…,” and the whole atmosphere gets filled with the glory of God.
Another sings, “We bow down and worship Yahweh…,” and nothing changes… the atmosphere as dry as before the song… no moisture.
One beats the drum, “Katim ka ka…,” and with it goes forth thundering and lightning in the spirit realm which cause changes that get translocated to the natural realm.
Another beats the drum, “Katim ka ka…,” and the demons are dancing to the beating.
One usher shakes hands with someone, welcoming the person to church, and the person is immediately engulfed with the Presence of God, and that service day is life-transforming.
Another usher shakes hands with someone, welcoming the person to church, and it’s just a normal handshake... nothing more!
Listen.
It’s not just about the mechanics of teaching, cleaning seats, praying, singing, etc.
It’s not just about the skill in drumming, playing the keyboard, preaching, welcoming people to church.
It’s about the spirituality of you… yes you… the one doing the stuff.
It’s about the spirit that goes forth with that which you do (be it singing, drumming, praying, dancing, teaching, etc.)
Jesus was the One that said,
“It is the Spirit that gives life. The body is of no value for that. But THE THINGS I HAVE TOLD YOU ARE FROM THE SPIRIT, SO THEY GIVE LIFE.” (John 6:63 ERV)
In giving life, the body has no value!
It is the spirit proceeding forth that matters!
Quick Question:
“The things you do (drumming, sweeping the church, welcoming people to church, praying, preaching, setting up sound, taking photographs, etc.), where do they come from? Jesus said His comes from the Spirit… where does yours come from?”
The Spirit or the flesh?
Don’t you think that herein lies the difference between:
- the results you obtain and the ones Jesus obtained?
- the words you speak and the ones Jesus spoke?
Don’t you think this is why the glory of God does not saturate the place when you sing, even with your angelic voice?
WANTED: Spiritual men… men that minister out of the Spirit.
When David played the harp for King Saul and the evil spirit left, do you think it was just the dexterity of David at playing the harp that drove the demon away?
Come off it!
It was the Spirit behind the sound coming out that drove the evil spirit.
Don’t you think there were plenty skillful musicians in the palace of King Saul?
Don’t you think they would have played for King Saul without being able to drive out the evil spirit tormenting the king?
But when David came, he played the same harp, and someone’s life was delivered.
In the Kingdom of God, spirituality is beyond dexterity/skill.
Be skillful, but beyond being skillful, be spiritual… that‘s when your skillfulness can transform lives.
God’s method of operation has always been sending forth His Word and His Spirit (Ezekiel 2:1-2).
If you want to live a victorious Christian life, then take hold of His Word AND His Spirit.
Leonard Ravenhill once said,
“If you have the word without the Spirit, you will dry up. If you have the Spirit without the word, you will blow up. But if you have the Spirit with the word, you will grow up.”
PRAYER:
Let every word I speak in the Name of Jesus Christ go forth with the Spirit (power) of God.
Let my words, songs, drumming, etc. not be devoid of the Spirit.
Let whatever I do be not such that it can only go as far as the body… let it not just end up arousing the emotions of myself and others without having the power to penetrate into the spirits of men and cause real transformation. Let my actions be in the demonstration of the Spirit and of power (1 Corinthians 2:4)
Tip:
If you made this prayer with me, join me as we increase intimacy with the Spirit of God.
