Why Was David A Man After God's Heart?
I was reading and something came to mind, it was about King David and how the bible tells us that he was a man after God's own heart (Acts 13:22 ;1 Samuel 13:14). Then I thought what could this be compared to and what made him so different from all the other Kings since he was a sinner just like the rest and perhaps the bible records many of the things he did that majority of us would frown upon. We look at David and we learn a great deal, however we seem to miss Saul and fail to compare ourselves to him.
I love how the bible does not point out that these men were perfect, yet the total opposite happens here. So what makes these two so different, what separated the sheep from the goat? Not only did David think like God, he had a heart of conviction. Saul would constantly make excuses for his lack of obedience to the command of God and would always point the finger at others for his failures. However David was convicted and shameful of his lack of obedience and strength. God resists the proud and give grace to the humble (James 4:6).
After all David was the imperfect type of Christ, a type that pointed to a much perfect Savior and King! Who would lead His people into the new Jerusalem a kingdom with no end, from this world of bondage and decay.
Who are the Sauls and who are the Davids? Conviction leads to repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10).
