Pain
Lives are detrimentally impacted by unavoidable acts of nature. With the loss of life, mourning surely follows. Relational bonds are rent--familial cords once so tightly woven can only be followed by sorrow. The overwhelming sense of loss attests to the unity of relationships--our counterparts serving as an extension of ourselves only to be suddenly taken.
How can the notion of fate reconcile this experience? How is the remaining member to function apart from themselves? How is the survivor comforted by unsubstantiated abstractions? Empty words, empty theories fail to assure our innermost being. Only acceptance of reality through the passage of time heals such wounds. Some take comfort or find solace in waiting for the hereafter. Yet, how does one find assurance even by this sincere desire?
My thoughts and prayers are with those in Houston.
