Many people would probably propagate a false idea if it got them fame and fortune but how many would actually perpetuate a false idea if it got us beaten, tortured, thrown in jail and killed, especially if it got us nothing in return?

We have records in and out of the bible that all of the apostles except John died excruciating deaths. Peter was even crucified upside down. Why would they die for what they know is a lie? Lots of people even today die for what they think is true but the apostles were all eyewitnesses to the resurrected Jesus so they were in a position to know its true. They were beaten thrown in jail and murdered for what they had witnessed and proclaimed. If the story was false and they knew it they would be stupid to be jailed, tortured and killed for what they knew was a lie, yet history shows us that not one of them recanted. It's interesting that the 12 men associated with watergate could maintain their story for weeks let alone years.

These excruciating details are evidence that shows these men encountered the risen Jesus and were willing to do what it took to spread the truth.

And the Shroud of Turin adds further credence. Ever looked into it? Atheists continue to fight to try to prove it a hoax, but it was forensically accurate and scientifically baffling.

There are some great articles and good books out there on the subject, if you haven't looked into it... but really, I think it's something Christians need to know about, because it is so faith affirming for those who are struggling with their faith.

It proves what Christ suffered, that He DOES exist, and it even proves His Resurrection!

Also it tears apart the myth that we don't know what He looked like! We basically have a photo!

Thanks for the input iceflower.

I agree with everything that you are saying , I have yet to hear of anyone dying for a lie, at least not on purpose! Historians admit that there is enough evidence to prove that Jesus existed, and there were historians from those times that verified that a person named Jesus of Nazareth did exist.

What they cannot explain is why a group of disciples would choose to believe a 'lie', recruit other people to believe in this 'lie', and then volunteer to die horrible deaths to uphold the 'lie'. No one would be foolish enough to suffer what they did for Jesus if Jesus really wasn't who He said that He was!

That is why the world cannot understand our committment to Jesus Christ and to the word of God, because it is not a mental revelation, but a spiritual revelation, and it can only be truly understood with the heart, and not with the mind!

Hi lymorgan. The stuff I've been posting is about understanding it with the mind. We can gain knowledge to understand it mentally but there is a deeper understanding that is in the "heart". Please follow me, upvote my posts and reesteem them. Thx.
