Been listening to Gunsmoke lately.

Like... the radio drama series from the 50s.

And I think it informs me much less about the Wild West when the actual story takes place than it does the 50s culture that produced it.

There's some really good content based on the wild west, and it's a bit of a shame the genre is essentially dead.

But listening to this... it's portrayal of men and women, of how it approaches concepts like strength and duty and morality in general and all that...

It's a product of it's era, and seems more expressive of that than the era of it's subject matter.
