Hey there Steemian, welcome to blakbird's cove, a space for art and art lovers
As is the norm, today we discuss the piece I made last week , this one I like to call-as the title says-
The Tragedy of The Hero.
It was in the harsh swelter of those all too familiar African afternoons that I got the impression that would later become this drawing, somewhere in the Nairobi CBD where I was lost- hopelessly lost! My sense of direction is pretty bad and half the time I'm just following someone else with no idea where I am so this happens often enough, what struck me was all these statues of fallen heroes scattered throughout the city, these heroes whose warm look seemed so eager to help as they followed me around the blind turns, guided me with a look as I crossed the highway, it was beautiful how to me there was a kind of yearning in their eyes to do more;
As though, if only they could cough up the caked up plaster in their throats they would whisper in my ear the exact street and all the turns to it, and I found myself teary eyed wanting to comfort the poor statues, just to let them know they were enough.
And the thought spurred another on the fall of empires like Rome or Athens, a topic I know nothing about, only that the statues immortal as they are bore witness to tragedies so immense and as yet untold, things so brutal they no doubt could corrode from the inside out.
Have good one guys,
@blakbird
