Chinese Dream: Western Imitation or Radical Alternative?

I just read this incredibly interesting article written by Emanuel Pastreich, director of the Asia Institute in Seoul, South Korea. It examines the hidden value of Chinese philosophy and worldview amidst the present world dominated by consumerism. It also elaborates on how China can play a positive role in leading the world out of the western developmental trap that foresees an unsustainable future.

Unfortunately, my experience in researching the food system of China found the so-called Chinese Dream a western imitation to a great extent...an increasingly industrialized agriculture system relying on fossil fuels, an elongating food supply chain that marginalizes small producers, and a distancing consumer-producer relationship that created many problems of trust. But the thriving sustainable food production, and many other civil society initiatives also promise some hope.
