A wise man: The Fox in The Little Prince |谷哥点名#11角色
After a break, it’s time to participate the @jubi contest again. The topic is character. I’d like to take this opportunity to share one of my favorite characters in Little Prince. This article is dedicated to the my fox(es)
To me, although I am fascinated with the love between little prince and rose, the interaction between little fox and fox is touching as well.
When little prince first came to the earth, and found a ton of rose, he was sorrowful that his rose was not unique in Universe. At that time, the appearance of fox taught little prince about the truth and values of building up relationship.
Said the fox, “Tame means to establish ties… To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world....”
It explains the meaning of establish ties to people. Little prince then understand why his rose is so different from other thousands of flowers.
Regarding grief at separation and joy in union, fox gives little prince a great inspiration.
And when the hour of his departure drew near—“Ah," said the fox, "I shall cry."
It is your own fault," said the little prince. "I never wished you any sort of harm; but you wanted me to tame you…Then it has done you no good at all!"
“It has done me good," said the fox, "because of the color of the wheat fields.”
It is unavoidable that people face separation time to time. Since we’ve tamed each other and established ties, we feel sorrowful when we are going to be apart. Would it have been better if we had never met? The answer is no. Fox responded that he gained good memories and experiences. He would not be upset about little prince, but everything related to little prince becomes meaningful to him.
Finally, fox told little prince a secret.
Said the fox, “The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.… It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”
We are easily blinded by what we see. What we see and feel at the moment are so easy to drive our own emotions and thinking. However, when we feel with heart, we would see different stories. It can be applied to the relationship between people. When complaining about the bad sides on the surface of people, we often ignore the other good side of them.
The word from fox is easy but the message is complicated. To me, fox is a good friend of little prince, but also an enhancement thinker. In reality, do we have such a wise person supporting us? He / She might be a friend, family member, teacher or lover. We are glad to have this wise man to make ourselves mature.
