Spaghetti with clams and white wine” in memory: a closed down mom-and-pop restaurant in Cheung Chau
I returned to Cheung Chau a few days ago.
When I arrived at the pier, I remembered there was a mom-and-pop restaurant I frequently went to in the past. But I could not find it anymore. Then, I remembered there was an alley behind the restaurant. I started looking for this alley, and finally found that the restaurant has become a chain grocery.
At that moment, my thoughts burst back suddenly.
When I first visited this restaurant, I saw that the interior was elegantly decorated and the environment was quiet (it was very difficult to find a quiet and cheap restaurant in Cheung Chau!) We entered the restaurant and ordered " Spaghetti with clams and white wine "and a hot cup of coffee. The price is more or less with the restaurant in downtown, but it is more delicious that the ingredients are fresh. The owner Mrs. So came to chat with us. We were full of praise for the food. Mrs. So said that she usually cooked with her partners, and shared with us about the ingredients and cooking skills.
Since then, we have had Mrs. So’s contact number. Whenever we went to Cheung Chau, we would take the opportunity to come to this restaurant. Gradually, we become regular customers. Once it was our birthday, Mrs. So gave us a piece of homemade cheese cake. And Once there was under the typhoon signal No. 8, Mrs. So still cooked for us and then took a ferry back home. In fact, she lives in an island.
But in the past two years, we did not visit Cheung Chau. Although I went to Cheung Chau six months ago because of business, I only made a trip back and forth without noticing whether the restaurant was still there.
Until a few days ago I found that the restaurant has been closed down. A mom-and-pop restaurant is driven out by big businesses. Maybe one of the reasons is that Cheung Chau is familiar with the street food rather than western dishes. If the restaurant had opened in the downtown, it would not have been closed down.
