Pitaya is the fruit of a cactus indigenous to the Americas but it has been popularized by it's Chinese name huǒlóng guǒ, which means fire dragon flower. It grows and propagates easily throughout subtropical regions. The fruit itself has a bit of a sour to tart taste and is reminiscent of watermelon in flavor and has the texture of kiwi fruit. The flowers can be steeped into tea and are quit lovely as well to the palate.

The health benefits of Dragon Fruit are many so I'll just list a few~ it is extremely high in vitamin c and encourages the growth of probiotics. It's a strong anti inflammatory and reduces the growth of free radical cancer forming cells. It levels blood sugar and regulates cholesterol. It's a wonderful cleansing agent by removing toxins from the intestines and blood.

I think waking up to a bit of dragon fruit daily could give one the power of the dragon, haha! Certainly finding them on a walk is exciting in itself.
