It's Hard When You're Color-Challenged (Indigo Blindness)

in #colorchallenge7 years ago (edited)

This might be the greatest color challenge of all, because I can't really distinguish blue and purple. I've had long extended arguments with friends about things being blue versus purple, and the consensus is usually that I'm blind.

One time in college I got into a friendly fight with my best friend about the color of a flower. He said purple. I said blue. We took one of the flowers back to a student lounge to get a consensus, which I thought I had in the bag because he's legally colorblind. But everyone said purple, save for one, who said periwinkle, and that started a long argument about what color periwinkle is. I tried so hard to see any purple in that flower, but it was pure blue to me, and I have no idea why.

So then indigo... what is it? Is it a dark purple-blue? Is it just dark blue? With purple tints? Blurple? I even looked up the color spectrum on Wikipedia and that only made matters worse. Half the colors on the "blue" spectrum were straight up purple to me, and about three of the "purple" colors were blue.

I've been looking through the color challenge today and it's been no help. Half you guys are posting pictures of things that look blue to me, half purple, and I am confused. It's even more confusing because I know those things probably aren't colored how I'm perceiving them.

In the spirit of trying, though, this is a macro I took of some skinny jeans I was wearing in the desert at dawn earlier this year.

Feel free to yell at me if this is not indigo, but follow it up with an objectively indigo picture, cause this is all a shot in the dark for me.

Thanks for reading!
