PERFECT LOVE

DSC00870 (2).JPG

Originally from Turkey and Persia, these beauties were brought to Europe in the early 16th century. This flower gained it's name from the Turkish word for gauze, which turbans were wrapped. By the 17th century they had traveled to the Netherlands, where the price of a single bulb became so expensive that it caused the market to crash, thus Tulip Mania began. The story of the Red tulip goes like this. A Prince named Farhad was so in love with a Maiden named Shirin. When the Prince received word that Shirin had died, he was so distraught that he rode his horse off a cliff in grief. It is said that from each droplet of his blood, sprang a scarlet tulip, thus giving it the meaning of "perfect Love". I learned this bit of information from https://www.teleflora.com/meaning-of-flowers/tulip.

This is my entry for @kalemandra #colorchallenge, Monday Red. I captured this beauty with my Sony Vivitar Cybershot.
