Dear Friends,

This is my very first travel blog on steemit and I hope you will like it. Let me know your comments and thoughts.

I would like to share with you my experiences on my recent solo visit to Rome during Easter 2017. This was the first time I visited Rome and I was very excited about it and about attending Easter mass in Vatican. I travelled to Rome from Milan in Flixbus(www.flixbus.com) and the bus journey was cool and comfortable. It costed me only less than 20 Euros from the entire travel from Milan to Rome. I recommend flixbus to all of you who consider visiting Europe. The bus journey is super comfortable and easy. Free wifi and charging point on board as well. The bus has regular snack/toilet breaks as well.

I reached Rome in an evening, and I chose to stay in a 'bed and breakfast' motel near Vatican, which I had pre-booked a fews back. Next day morning, after breakfast, I took a bus ride to Colosseum (I had bought a 3 day Rome bus pass the previous day which enabled me to hop on hop off any public transportation I wanted, including metros). I reached the Colosseum around 11 am. As expected and warned by TripAdvisor community, the place was so crowded, specially since it was in the Easter week I visited Rome.

I took a walk around the Colosseum to experience the beauty of the gigantic monument from the history and the I must say that Colosseum is an absolute beauty and amazing architecture.

I had no tickets reserved so I had to stand in the ticket line for almost an hour. It was relatively very hot outside, but I was all excited to get in. Some 'skip the line' offer from tour operators (many travellers referred to them as scams) approached offering much shorter queue with 2X price. I rejected their offer and decided to stand in the queue. Anyway those tour operators promised that their ticket has access to some special places inside the Colosseum which normal ticket doesn't have access to, which seemed to be true anyway.

After a long wait for ticket and security check, finally we got access to the steps of Colloseum. An audio guide was available. I rented that as well. Anyway I must say that it wasn't very beneficial as the audio points were very limited. There were less than 15 audio points as I could remember, and many audio points stations were not clear also. Anyway without an audio guide or a guided tour, you may not understand most of the architectural or historic importance of the Colosseum.

The inside view was superb and breathtaking. I am adding some images here for the inside view.

It took almost an hour and a half for me to walk through various levels of Colosseum and listen to the audio guides. It was really a great experience overall wandering inside the Colosseum.

Some Tips and Advices for You

  1. Plan a visit in weekday so that you can avoid the crowd.

  2. Plan the visit early morning or evening so that you can avoid hot sun.

  3. You may reserve a ticket online which allows you to skip the line and a smooth entry.

  4. Guided tour seemed to be better than the audio guide. Audio quality was good, but I struggled a bit to find out the audio spots.

Thanks my dear friends for reading. Kindly let me know your thoughts on my blog and help me improve it.
