Oh yes, IoT will be awesome! I'm actually not such a techy nerd that I want every single thing in my house to be controlled from a distance. I'll stick with regular, old not-connected items for now, thanks!
In my view, the IoT will be revolutionary, and go way beyond 'controlling stuff in your house'. I think the current problem that companies are still thinking within the same paradigm as today's web, with the same lax attitude to security and greed towards user data. That approach is an inevitable failure.
Yes, I just find the risk in security too great. It's hard for me to think of good enough uses to push me over the edge though. Like the example of your fridge telling you your milk has gone bad or you need new eggs... I feel my brain should be capable enough to figure those things out! I want to be able (and I want my future kids to be able) to think for myself and have some organisational skills...

A number of the devices won't have regular updates, making hacking them easier.
