Here are my recommendations and thoughts for the June 2019 Previews Catalog for items generally shipping in August of 2019. DC

1 – Batman Who Laughs 7 – Final issue of the series ties directly in to the new series Batman/Superman 1.
2- Batman/Superman 1 – New team-up book for the Dark Knight and the Caped Crusader.
4 – Year of the Villain crosses over into 21 DC books this month. Featuring battle-damaged covers. The “battle-damage” means the logo on the cover is messed up.
6 – Batman vs Ra’s Al Ghul 1 – New 6 issue series written and drawn by Neal Adams.
7- Batman 232 Facsimile Edition – DC jumps on the facsimile bandwagon with a reprint of Ra’s Al Ghul’s first appearance.
10 & 11 – In addition to the 21 Year of the Villain crossovers, there are two additional books, 1 for Black Mask and one for Sinestro.
14 & 15 – Issue 2 for Superman Year One is already being solicited. Hopefully this is a sign it will ship on time.
16 – Great, another facsimile edition for House of Secrets 92. This book has jumped in value since the deaths of Wrightson and Wein, so I can almost understand it getting the facsimile edition.
44 – Anytime I see starfish and Starro on a Justice League cover, I have to look at it.
69 – Volume 10 of Tom King’s run on Batman. Still worth reading. We will discuss the unfortunate early end to Mr. King’s run in a future podcast. This volume does not include issues 64 and 65, which is in the Heroes in Crisis: hardcover solicited on page 78. I hate it when they do this.
79 – Heroes in Crisis now solicited in hardcover. I am going to pick this up based on Matt Martin’s recommendation.

Marvel

1 – So, Marvel is serious about Absolute Carnage 1 this month as they include a 5-page preview for the issue plus the solicits for issues 1 and 2. Story by Donny Cates and includes variants by Artgerm, Ron Lim, and others.
10 – Carnage trade that reprints many early Carnage appearances titled: spider-man: The Many Hosts of Carnage.
11 to 17 – Cover all the books Absolute Carnage interrupts this month plus several 3-part mini-series
18 to 21 – House of X and Powers of X continues. I am interested to see what Hickman does with the X-Universe. I really hope this is successful for the X-Men, because it would be nice to see the big publishers reign in the number of titles they release each month.
22 – Marvel Comics 1000. Here Marvel is playing Us Too. Since Action and Detective hit 1000 issues, Marvel assumes Marvel Comics would have as well IF it had been continually published, which it obviously was not. Here is the sad part about the Marvel Comics 1000 solicit. Included, is an image of DC’s Golden Age Green Lantern, page 28. You must wonder who did the editing on the cover.
59 – The final issue of Spider-man: Life Story. Issue 6 brings the web-head into 2019.
63 – So, since DC has Year of the Villain, Marvel brings back Acts of Evil. Three months of villain swapping in the Marvel Universe.
131 – Volume 4 of Immortal Hulk .

37 – Spawn hits issue 300. They are billing it as the longest running independent series, but isn’t it technically tied for the longest running series now with Cerebus. Issue 301 will make it the longest running indy series.
63 – Die issue 6 starts a new story arc with Split the Party part one.
Dark Horse
86 – Berserker Unbound. Jeff Lemire brings a Conan analog into the modern day to fight off wizards. Includes a variant cover by Mike Mignola.
Boom
216 – Bury the Lede. An original graphic novel by Gaby Dunn, whom I have never heard of, but the art looks solid and it bills itself as a murder mystery. 128 pages for $19.99.
Devils Due
301- Squarriors Volume 1 gets a new printing. I mention this because we interviewed the writer, Ash Maczko on episode 20 of the podcast
Titan
366 – A new story in the Snow Piercer series. Solicited for a September release. The movie with Chris Evans is really good if you have not seen it.
368 – The second issue of Blade Runner 2019 solicits with 3 covers.
372 – Expanse fans can pick up the Art and Making of the Expanse, solicited for an October release.
Valiant
377 – Valiant is doing another exclusive bundle for local comic shops with Doctor Mirage issues 1 to 5.
379 – Another comic shop bundle is available for Livewire issues 9 to 12.
Apparel
434 – Some nice Detective 1000 Batman shirts
436 – Punisher front pocket wallet with the skull
436 – Some Wonder Woman apparel including a cape, tiara and cuff set, with the cuff set and tiara made with rhinestones
438 – Ant-man and Wasp shoulder accessories. You can set them on your shoulder if you choose to cosplay as one or the other.
