Adventures in Terminal: Creating a Qubes Tablet PART II

PART I Here

Where I left off last time, I was stuck trying to update from Android 3.2.1 to 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and after several failed attempts to use the native Android "update" feature, I've decided to try manually updating.

This discussion thread in the Acer support community seemed perfect for my situation so I've gone to the Acer product support website on my A500 tablet and found the correct ICS .zip download to make this update happen. Lets get started:

  1. Check to confirm what my build number is (have to know which OS update is appropriate). My build number is Acer_A500_7.014.02_COM_GEN2 so I want the Version: 7.014.02.041.205.01.PA.CUS1 ICS download
  2. Download!
  3. Find out I can't open the download...
  4. Go to the Acer product support website on my desktop and download Version: 7.014.02.041.205.01.PA.CUS1
  5. Extract the zip file on my desktop
  6. Realize in a flash of brilliance that I'm supposed to take the "update.zip" file I just extracted and put it on a FAT32 formatted SD card (in the route directory), put the SD card in my A500, and then start up the tablet in recovery mode.

Well, time to go shopping. I need to buy some more thumb drives anyway. Back in a bit with PART III
