Reflections on OpenAI, AI, and the Quest for Planetary Intelligence

The discussion of AI has reached fascinating heights, particularly with the ambitious directions taken by OpenAI under Sam Altman's leadership. OpenAI has launched several initiatives aimed at creating superintelligent AI, including the Superalignment project and proposals for international governance of superintelligence. These projects are critical steps toward ensuring that AI systems remain safe and aligned with human values as their capabilities advance.

Is OpenAI Working on a "Planetary Super Mind"?

While OpenAI's current efforts focus on advancing AI reasoning capabilities and governance, there is no indication that the organization is aiming to create a "planetary super mind" akin to a unified global consciousness. However, the concept of such a super mind does align with speculative ideas about future AI systems. For now, projects like Neuralink and decentralized AI networks are early explorations into enhanced connectivity but fall far short of achieving telepathic-like global intelligence.

Lessons from Forbidden Planet

The classic 1956 sci-fi film Forbidden Planet offers a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked technological ambition. In the film, an advanced race, the Krell, destroyed themselves in their quest for godlike powers when their technology began manifesting their unconscious fears and desires. This story resonates with modern debates about AI, reminding us to approach the pursuit of power and knowledge with humility and caution.

The Antediluvian Connection

One intriguing perspective links antediluvian times with telepathic communication. The hypothesis suggests that before events like the Tower of Babel, humans may have communicated telepathically, supported by a natural planetary mechanism. This ability supposedly broke down in stages after the Babel event, leaving remnants such as prophecy and oracles, as described by Julian Jaynes. Spoken languages then emerged out of necessity.

My take on this hypothesis is detailed in a video linked below, where I also discuss how Jaynes’ work primarily examined a later period, from the Exodus to just after the Trojan War. For a fuller exploration, one must delve into the true antediluvian era:

Sharing My Research

I welcome anyone interested in these topics to explore my work. My YouTube channel, Ganymede Hypothesis, contains much of my thinking on origins issues. Additionally, my hobby website, bearfabrik.com, offers insights into Mars, Ganymede, and related subjects.
