The link between consciousness and music
So what is consciousness ? It looks (and certainly feels !) like it is inside our brain but science tells us that it is a non-local emergent phenomenon of our grey matter.
The mechanism is comparable to how music emerges from a vinyl LP. The music can't be found on the record itself, yet intuitively we tend to believe it. When we look deep into it we only see a a long peculiar structure: a 'groove'. Only when the mechanisms of the record player are activated in a certain way (placing the needle and amplifying the signals) an emergent phenomenon appears: sound waves that make up music.
Similar like the record, consciousness can't be found in the brain. But when there are certain activities in the brain happening (billions of neurons firing and communicating with each other), consciousness arises from the brain just like music from the vinyl record.
And finally....think about this.... on the record ALL the music is already available. The needle secures that it is played linearly so that a seemingly continuous but only momentary experience occurs. So it prevents us from 'experiencing' a tremendous burst of everything at once, in an instant and then nothing.
Thus comes consciousness, like a needle on the record of your life. Allowing you to process this experience linearly.
What are your thoughts ?
Are you trying to say whatever makes our consciousness is already there, and requires just a method to come 'alive', like the grooves on the record, becoming music? That would main, everything within and outside of us is already written, created so to speak. I find hard to believe. I go with science, although in fact I'm agnostic wrt a creators and planner.
I BELIEVE (as a kind of feeling, 'knowing') that indeed everything comes from ONE creation that is somehow already out there completely. But in regard to the record analogy, you should in fact see it as an infinite stack of records where YOU decide on which record (groove) in the stack you're placing the needle at any moment in time. Maybe this resembles the many-worlds theory ??
But hey, what do I know ? It's interesting stuff to ponder on and that counts for me.
Thanks for your comment @qsounds , much appreciated !
