A discussion of platform attitudes and content.

As a new user my jaw has been agape at the huge potential of this technology. I sit here and wonder how on earth I am so early to the party... but now I'm here I've realised that there's free booze, Doritos and hot girls... /s

party!

In all seriousness, I believe there are many aspects of this technology that are in dire need of a u-turn at very high speeds. Reddit is without a doubt Steem's arch-enemy. Sprawl through any Reddit thread and you will be barraged with a single sentiment: the content just isn't up to par. But why is this?

When I registered an account I was delighted that users were rewarded for positive participation. I believe this is a beautiful idea that will - in the future - serve as the backbone for one of the most constructive content producing technologies on the internet. But, we are sorely missing the ability to reward those with dissenting opinions that would otherwise not find a voice. Poor content is finding its way into the limelight because of a huge wave of - in my opinion - circlejerked positivity.

Honestly, I've not got a clue how this could be tackled. Reddit has an upvote/downvote system, but here it's solely the former. Imagine, perhaps, a secondary voting system where unpopular posts or opinions are rated separately. The sentiment being "unpopular, but constructive".

Let me know what you think about the current state of Steem's content down below.
