Choosing The Right Company To Work For
You applied for a job as a secretary at two different companies. After your outstanding interview, both companies have offered you the job that you have been craving for, but you asked for a time to weigh in your decision.Company A
- A well-known company that has been in business for more than 20 years
- Company's capital quite strong but there are rumours that they are in huge debt too and might go bankrupt within 2 years.
- They offer you $1800 salary per month plus other benefits such as a yearly bonus.
- You may have to work extra time the normal working hours without extra payment
Company B
- A company that has just been set up a few months ago, but there is a potential that this company might grow bigger and more established than Company A.
- No concrete evidence on how stable the company is, but they assured you that you will never regret your decision to join them.
- They offered $1200 salary per month plus other benefits but they didn't promise any bonuses.
- You only work 5 times a week and will be paid for extra working hours.
After reading it through, I know some of you might have come up with a decision right away, and some might still need to contemplate a bit. Give me your best answer and your reasons for choosing it by leaving a reply below.
Good contest with lots of good answers!
For me, I'd go with the second one. I'm not as interested in money as I am in time. I need to be here to Up vote content every day! :)
This is great. For me, i will choose company B eventhough the company just commences their business few months ago, but still they offered quite amazing opportunity such as promoting you into a higher level of management and at the same time, you will grow together with the company. Besides that, the offer of having a 2 days off on weekend is certainly a plus as you can have more quality time with your family and maybe can do a side business at the same time on weekend. Meanwhile, in terms of salary, i can bare with it because if you work hard and smart, for sure the salary will get review again by the upper management.
Here is mg point of view.. Harap da mengena lah.. Hahahaha
It all depends on my life situation at the moment. If I'm in my early 20s, single, no family, I would pick company A. Get the experience of working for an established company and learn from them. A lot of valueable experience can be learnt from those big companies. They became big for a reason. So work for them and learn as much as you can even if it only lasts for 2 years.
If however I'm in my 30s, with family n kids, then Company B might be a better fit. More time to spend with the family. It might be less pay but time spent with your family is worth it.
So before picking which company to work for, I would start by examining my personal life first. Just my 2 cents 😁
Yes, I concur with your views too as I've been there done that! High 5!
To find the answer, Let we think about the meaning of life first. What's the point to be alive? Life is to short to gain Money as much as we can. After getting all we want we finally realize that we lose everything which is so much more valuable than the money itself. We lose our time with family, friends, husband, wife, and everyone we love. I agree that we need money, but if we work day and night to fulfill our desire, it's totally useless. Human Being never feel satisfied as it is the basic instinct of human character. That's why politicians do corruption, people do robbing and so forth. To tell the truth, their money is more than enough but they follow their selfish heart to get more and more.
From here, I eagerly love to prefer the second one, so I would have more time to do my hobbies, gathering with family, etc. What we need to do is to be grateful for what we have. $1200 per month is more than enough. I believe that Love is priceless, happiness is priceless
and $1800 per month absolutely cannot buy my happiness and my time back.

According to me
Individual should decide we are here "Earn for Living, or Living for Earning"
Why not option A bcz
1.well this company is well reputed may b ga fake identity its giving to world. Well it mid have many pending payouts as said its on verge of bankrupt in nxt 2yr.offering $1800 is useless if u have to work whole weak with extra time.. Will u able to givr time for ir family and youself? Def NO
Why option B
Well it mid b new company, new start. I could def would work with it even i get less salary $1200 and help to get it. strong foundation. With expanding to company my incriment will also grow.. And with 5 working day i can enjoy my 2 holidays with my family and friends..
So my option is B
Firstly, congratulations on running your first ever contest @beverlyjoe. I had actually wanted to make way for others to participate until I read the two company which you wrote and I must confessed, I have actually worked for both such companies in the past! 😄
So here is my opinion of it...
It depends...
The answer really depends on what age you are now and your current priorities in life.
As @bunkerz rightly pointed out, if I am a fresh grad or still in my 20's I would definitely choose Company A as working for an established company will not only give me the much needed working experience, but also paved the way for me to move on to other companies in future. The good starting pay and bonus will help to ease my financial burdens, particularly if I need to pay off my education loan. And since I am in my 20's, I do not mind working long hours as I have the energy, vitality and youth for it.
However, if I am already in my 30's or 40's with some years of working experience and savings in my bank account my priorities may change. I may want to spend more time with my family or pursue the side hustle which I always wanted to do. Thus, I will most probably opt for Company B. Although the pay may be lower, but it gives me more flexibility and time which I will not get if I were to work for a larger organisation. I can compensate for the lower pay with my side hustle or other investments.
No straight answers here, but it really is a question of your current age, your priorities and your commitments.
I'll go for Company B.
Experience
For me, it is always exciting to watch a new company grow, and to be part of it, is special. You will get to experience walking with a company from the starting line and who knows where it will lead you to. Adventure and experience of life we're talking about here.
Stability
No business is moving up straight ahead smoothly without bumpy roads. They will always be ups and downs whether the business is new or old. The cooperation of the team behind the business is what decides whether the business will fail or not. By the way, a huge debt is scary. It will affect not just the upper chairs but the whole team.
Salary
To offer such salary as a new company is wise. They are new. The financial needed to be distributed wisely. Too much spending will end with debts. I'm pretty sure once the company reaches certain amounts of income, they will give a raise to their faithful employee. To earn it, it is up to ourselves. To perform well or not.
Working hours
It is shameful for a company to have their employee working overtime and not paying for their extra time working. This is abuse. A good company who appreciates their employee will not abuse their employee. We deserve to get paid for the extra hours we put in. To have 2 days off a week is a dream! More time to yourself for your well-being.
Seems to me, Company B is an obvious winner here. But this is only from my point of view, what really matters is your intuition. If you feel good about it, go for it!
I prefer to work for Company B. For me it is better to help them to become established company. As the time goes by, you can build your reputation there, provided you must work at your very best, and maybe you can get a promotion? You also required to work only 5 days in a week, and that means you have more time with you family.
I would choose company A
Offers higher salary and more work experience, the work load and extended time will be well seen in future jobs.
You can have the satisfaction of finally having the job in the company that you have wanted so much.
Considers that being salaried implies depending on the fluctuations of the market and how they affect the companies for which we work. In this sense, your most important long-term resource is your experience which is the only one that will increase your chances of obtaining a better job later or of getting another quickly in the event of the failure of these possible employers.
Have more time in the market ensures a longer survival time in it so at least one year from now you could consider it as safe, a year that you can get involved in this battle against multi-million dollar debts, which It could be more useful than ideal conditions that do not generate any learning.
Many times we prefer our comfort sim understand that success requires sacrifice.
I really hope that you select company A.
for you, for your professional development and for your possible success later as an entrepreneur.
Thank you for including us in this important decision in your life
I'll choose to work for the first company. Here's why:
The news that they will go bankrupt in two years is just a rumour and there is no concrete evidence. So, they get the benefit of doubt there(Must be just a rival company trying to destabilise them). Plus, if they are a big company, I'm sure they have enough contacts to figure out how to get rid of this problem because two years is a a lot of time to get your shit together.
Now, let's consider they go bankrupt in two years. If I go out to get a new job and tell them I have the experience as I've worked for two years for one of the biggest companies in business before they got bankrupt, they'll hire me instantly.
But if I go out and say I've worked for a company that had 'potential' but couldn't make it, they'll tell me I've wasted my two years.
Salary. $1800 + bonus and you're not gonna accept that? That too when the other option is $1200? Surely you don't have the energy and time to work extra hours worth $600 (that too excluding the bonus). Do the math.
Company B has potential. What is potential? Potential only means you're not there yet. And should you wait at that company till it reaches its potential? No way.
You don't know when you're dying. I could die tomorrow. So should I waste my today working for B(potential) or A (the product/the dream).
For all those reasons, I'd choose A.
