Minnow Shares Giveaway !

in #contest6 years ago (edited)

I got myself some extra Shares from my own @upvoteshares support project which came along with Sponsorships that I can give away to quality Minnows!

The idea behind these Sponsorships is to make Steemit a bit more social and friendly while offering Minnows that are putting effort into growing an extra way to do so. While the intention was to get these Minnow Shares to go to really small accounts that have very low SP and try to get something going on Steemit, they so far nearly all have gone to somewhat more established accounts that managed to get a following and some basic post earnings (only <1000SP accounts can be sponsored).

This made me realise how much of a wall most small accounts have to face to break avove 0.50$-1.00$ average daily post earnings. Only the ones who really learn to understand steemit tend to break through. A couple reasons why Small Accounts have a hard time.

  1. About 95% Small Accounts Fail. It is is really unrewarding to give them some support and see one after the other give up on Steemit after a couple months (the ones who do make it really make up for that though). The chances of a 100SP+ account staying active on Steemit are so much higher that it most of the time feels like wasted Steem Power to support smaller accounts.

  2. Having no Upvote to 'Give Back' is a Huge Handicap. Most people are at least in some way selfish and there is very little to be gained by upvoting tiny accounts since the vote can not be returned and it is very unlikely to get good curation rewards.

  3. Subpar Quality. Everyone has to start somewhere on Steemit and most of the time this start is not very good and has s a lot of room for improvement. The minority seem to be willing to put in a lot of effort in now to get the potential rewards later.

I am an origami enthusiast who has just posted a tutorial on how to make your own earrings. I've been on steemit for just under 2 months and am enjoying the community engagement specifically @ivan-g who also posts about origami, @Kristyglas who is working hard to improve her already impressive art skills, @marblely and @cryptocariad who regularly post lovely posts for needlework Monday as well as try the origami posted by myself and ivan-g. The lovely team at fiftywords led by @jayna who I have only recently found and the people actively engaging little redfish like me with their daily faucet competitions such as: @nexit, @rentmoney and @mapleleaf123 making them fun and engaging.

Any of the above who still meet your criteria are all deserving.

Thank you so much for the mention @gmatthe2... We need all the help we can get ... I've just seen the tutorial and I will and make some earrings... they look so beautiful !

Aaww.. thank you for the mention too @gmatthe2! 😘😘😘 So little SPs and VPs but we will get there some day!

Impressive stuff @gmatthe2 , you were added to the list. The upvotes are not big but should be quite consistent.

I did not know there was an origami community on Steemit, I actually enjoy that kind of content and followed. I will probably have strong urge to also try to make some of the things you made. I remember once seeing a video on youtube from vihart who made me try out folding a hexa flexagon, really loved that.

Anything you could advice me that is also quite easy to do with 8-12 year old kids, looks like an excellent activity do do with my nieces.

Thanks for mentioning so many steemians and good luck grinding your way up there. I am quite confident you will be able to do it

Basically anything that you can then play with, keeping in mind that if there are more steps then their age they might get bored.

Boxes with lids
Drinking fish
Fortune teller
Boats
Things that spin
Architectural origami (origami lego) is also great fun.

Thanks, I'll make sure to let you know when I tried some out !

This is a great initiative @costanza. I feel that mutual support is essential for this to succeed. Thank you very much :D

If such a huge number of minnows fail here, that's the sustainability of the steemit Inc is quite slim o.

I would argue the opposite, since so many minnows fails it means that Steem is not a get quick rich scheme and only the ones that do real effort will succeed. I see it in a way similar to youtube, starting from 0 is really hard and takes a long time and effort. Most minnows fail because their intend is just to make money which does not work on Steemit, this comes at the cost of the ones who really do effort because it's not that easy to get support when you start from 0.

But i see so many minnows putting in real efforts and still having nothing. We know it's not a get rich skim but a little encouragement here and there will make most of them work hard and hopeful. Look from my observation thus far here, minnows are among the set of people creating interesting content on this platform. But when the encouragement is not there, most of them may think that the effort is not worth it and give up.

This is a very noble act. All the best.

How do you know 95% of the minnows fails?
I would say it's more close to 99%. So I'm curious to know where you found this percentage.

The mumber is just a figure of speach. You are right it should be more around 99% but I talk about the ones who actually try.

Proud to be redfish 😎

By the way how do u use minnowshares?

you don't really use them, they are just a name of a share of the upvotes form the @minnowshares account that will last about a month each round.

So we have no chance to participate in it

Hello, I'm a Dancer who's really trying to reach out to anyone interested in Entertainment, particularly dance. I hasn't been easy trying to find others who are interested in this area on Steemit. I'd be stoked if I can get through to people out there. I joined Steemit this June... Here's a link to some of my videos :
