Curie Comment Contest

Earn Steem by leaving good comments on posts upvoted by @curie!*

*Only posts which receive a @curie vote through Curie curator/reviewer operations are eligible for this comment contest. PLEASE NOTE the @curie account casts many upvotes which are not part of Curie curator/reviewer operations. See below for two methods to tell what posts have been upvoted by Curie through curator/reviewer operations:

  • Visit becquerel.io to see a record of the most recent posts upvoted through Curie curator/reviewer operations and leave thoughtful comments on them for your chance to win!
  • @curie also leaves an automated comment on all posts upvoted through Curie curator/reviewer operations, so alternatively you can visit the @curie blog comments to find eligible upvoted posts to comment on.

How do I sign up?

There is no need to sign up. Simply commenting on posting upvoted through Curie curator/reviewer operations makes you eligible for the Curie Comment Contest.

The contest week will run from Sunday 15:01 UTC through Sunday 15:00 UTC

Curie will use an algorithm that evaluates comments on both quantitative and qualitative metrics. This means that in addition to the number of Curie-upvoted posts that you comment on, the quality of your comments will also factor into the score. In addition we will look at other metrics designed to measure engagement with the authors that Curie upvotes.

THE EXACT ALGORITHM AND METRICS USED TO GENERATE THIS SCORE WILL NOT BE REVEALED TO HINDER ATTEMPTS TO GAME THE CONTEST

That being said, one of the most important metrics is simply the number of Curie-upvoted posts commented on during the contest week. For reference, here are the top 20 commenters by # of posts commented on for this contest week (you can tell by comparing this list to the actual placements below that there are definitely other factors that go in to the contest scoring, but at current contest participation levels if you leave a good (non-spam) comment on just two Curie-upvoted posts a day you would definitely be in the top 17 places that pay out :)

Win up to 10 Steem!

Curie Comment Contest winners will be announced in a weekly post every Monday. In addition to the prize payout structure outlined below, the weekly champion will receive an honorary role for the week in the Curie Discord server of "Comment Champion". Bragging rights!

1st place (Curie Comment Champion): 10 Steem
1st Runner Ups (2 payout positions): 5 Steem each
2nd Runner Ups (2 payout positions): 3 Steem each
Honorable Mentions (12 payout positions): 2 Steem each

Total weekly prize pool: 50 Steem/ 17 payout positions

Spam Comments will NOT be rewarded

The comment history of all winners will be manually reviewed for spam before any prizes are paid out. Short generic comments that could have been left without reading the post will not qualify for the Curie Comment Contest. Examples of spam comments include (but are not limited to): "Nice post"; "I like your post"; "Nice picture"; "Good song"; "Great story", etc.

EGREGIOUS SPAM COMMENTERS WILL BE REPORTED TO STEEMCLEANERS

A few words of advice on leaving good, thoughtful comments

- tell the post author what in specific you liked about the post, why you liked it and/or how it made you feel. If your comment is so generic that it could have been left without reading the post, it will not qualify for the Curie Comment Contest.

Week 4 Winners!

For comments left during the contest week of August 26th - September 2nd, 2018. All prize payouts will be sent out shortly from the @curie account.

Comment Champion - 10 Steem prize! @audreybits

Great job to our first repeat champion, the reigning, defending and STILL CURIE COMMENT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD :) #1 in total posts commented on at 67 and also scoring very well in the engagement metrics. Good job!

1st Runner Ups - 5 Steem each! @janton & @coinsandchains

Very little separated these two awesome commenters, with @coinsandchains commenting on the 3rd most posts (55) and scoring well on the engagement metrics, and @janton "only" commenting on 44 posts but scoring through the roof on author engagement. Great job!

2nd Runner Ups - 3 Steem each! @avizor & @niallon11

@avizor great job commenting on the 2nd most posts (61) and leaving good thoughtful comments. It was a very close score between 2nd through 4th place this week. Remember to keep engaging with authors from the previous week to get that extra engagement boost in your score :)

Honorable Mentions (in order of placement) - 2 Steem each!

@yeninsfer, @macoolette, @drawmeaship, @headchange, @marblely, @trojan4, @veryspider, @codingdefined, @fitinfun, @scrawly, @melinda010100, @eveningart

Let the wild rumpus begin!

So what are you waiting for? Start reading those Curie-upvoted posts and leaving thoughtful comments already!

Thanks @curie for the opportunity to see all these great authors on steemit and for sponsoring them so that they can be properly rewarded for their great work.
Also @audreybits well done on coming in first place. It is always nice to be at the top position so congratulations.

And thanks to you as well, you are really bringing it in the comments, not just for this contest but with a really high level of engagement in general! Even among all these great commenters, your comment history stood out to me when I reviewed it :) Awesome work mate!

Thank you @carlgnash for that. I was making a lot more effort than usual just to see what could be achieved with the right attitude. I don't know if you have heard of ashers engagement league but I was making a bit push to get up the charts and fortunately managed to get to third place last week.

Part of it was just making that extra little bit of effort to write longer and more detailed comments where as before I used to just vote and move on after I read most posts.

I can't believe the difference it has made in just one week by getting more involved. The people that I have spoken to, the new followers and the upvotes were all a lovely surprise from just doing something that I enjoyed anyway. I had a bit more time than usual this week as I had a few days off to use so it will drop off a bit when I'm back to work but still looking forward to keeping up the engagement.

Yes I am very familiar with @abh12345's engagement league and in fact @curie sponsors prize payout there :) Asher rocks! You make a great point btw that you actually grown your own account quickly while you engage, if you spend the energy doing it. It is a more surefire way to grow your account than posting (although of course, doing both is optimal). Cheers - Carl

That is very true. If i was new to steemit again i would do a lot of things very differently and one of those that i have passed onto new members is not to worry about posting at the start unless you have something very vital to get across. Comment and interact first and build up connections, otherwise you will spend months working on good posts that earn 1c and just get you discouraged. It's a mistake that i made myself at the beginning but luckily enough had the perseverance to keep going even when this was happening.

I'm new to the curation league but love the concept. Asher is brilliant and projects like curie that do keep people interested and encouraged to keep going. It makes all the difference in the end. Thanks Carl.

This comment thread absolutely deserves to be seen!

The fact that you are combining the Engagement League with the @curie comment contest is just awesome :D

Good luck in the EL this week!

Ssshh, you'll give away all my secrets... If your going to go for it, you might as well go hard.

To be fair i've seen a lot of the same names in the the two places. It makes sense to combine the two when they complement each other so well. How do you find interesting engaged authors, curie already has. If you are going to be commenting and engaging them, might as well try to top the league at the same time.

We agree wholeheartedly! :D

Thank you, Niallon!

I have a comment from the "Other Side". I was fortunate enough to get a curie vote last week (And I can not thank you enough-ever) but the real treat was the comment engagement with your people.

From a writer's point of view it was incredibly refreshing to have a gang of articulate commentors WHO ACTUALLY READ THE POST.

Thank you. It's really all I can say.

Thank you for telling us that. Knowing that the authors benefit from this project encourages me to do it more.

Hey that is awesome! Yeah that was the intent and the hope behind the contest and so far I have been really pleased when I review the comment histories of the winning placements - we have a lot of actual, genuine readers and commenters! Congrats on your own Curie vote btw :) Well deserved

Thanks so much, Curie!! Congrats to all the other winners!!

Congrats @audreybits our first multiple-time winner!

Thanks so much, Carl! Its an honor..

Congratulations

Thank You, Dante!

Wow nice 😀👌 great job you had done there .

Thank You! You did a great job as well.

Congrats! Great job!

Thanks so much! I have been really enjoying the posts this week. Even made a few new friends along the way.
Congratulations to all of this weeks winners, good job. All of the comments coming in with the curie vote is sure to motivate the authors.
Someone even told me the comments have inspired new topic ideas.

That is so cool! Great to hear RE making some friends, that is a bonus :) I love Steem collaborations and Steem inspirations for posting, so that in particular makes me happy to hear :) One component of the scoring metric is continued engagement with authors voted in prior week so if you make friends and continue conversing it adds to your score for the week :) Much love - Carl

That is great to know. I guess we share that in common then. My posting lately has been an attempt to get some cross over and bring my favorite communities together. The curie contest and c-squared has been a gold mine. Feel so fortunate to have found both. I'm sure I will be seeing you around in my further explorations of the platform.
Thanks for the tip I will be sure to keep it up.

Thanks Curie for providing awesome content to comment on.
Congrats to all the winners and especially @audreybits.

Thank you so much @coinsandchains! Congrats to you as well!

Good to see you still up there among the leaders!

Thanks, and thanks for the contest. I meant to share something with you last week that was a result of the contest. I'll send it to you on discord.

Love this idea @curie and will enjoy supporting this incentive. Resteeming to get the word out. Congratulations to all current winners. Well done! 🌺

Thanks for the resteem! I think it is very important for the long term success of the platform if there is at least as much focus on engagement and building a community of supportive readers and active commenters, as it is to focus on bringing in content creators.

It was my pleasure indeed @cargnash and I couldn't agree more. Engagement is a vital part of our involvement in steemit and adds much value to our overall experience.

Thanks @curie !!! Engagement is the pulse of a living platform, so keep up the good work, everyone \o/

Very well said Spoder! I might steal that :)

hahahahaha, feel free, sir alien eye !!! <3

Thanks so much for the honorable mention Steem!! I love contests that promote engagement!

Nice to see your name there again this week Melinda! Glad you are having fun with this :)

I'm seeing so many posts that I would have otherwise missed! It is fun!

Yay! Congratulations to everyone especially to @janton, @coinsandchains, @headchange! Good job! 👍

Thank you @curie for this contest!

Thanks @macoolette This is turning into one of my favorites. I love seeing so many friends in the comment threads around the platform.

Yeah, it looks like we're all around. I just got conscious when we hijacked that post and talked about bears and wild animals among ourselves with janton. I hope the author did not feel bad. 😊

I am pretty sure they just think I am nuts. I should do a post on the local wildlife one day.

That is a good idea. Add more photos of those that came home to you.

Congrats to you as well, you were very close to the money positions :) Great commenting. Cheers - Carl

I am slowly getting back in steem so this will be a good excuse :-).

cool, I hope to see your name up there in the top commenters next week! It really is a great excuse, and a good reminder that there are a lot of really talented and creative people posting here even if the "trending" page doesn't reflect that!
