Put on Your Thinking Cap - Win 3 SBD

in #contest7 years ago

It's been 5 years since society collapsed. Less than 3% of the world's population is still alive. Almost nothing is left of the buildings and "things" you knew before "IT" happened, and you are all on your own with very few belongings remaining.

You see this laying on the ground

It looks brand new, like it just came off the self. There is not a scratch on it. It is solid and of a good weight. It might have been a professional model before "IT" happened.

Answer these questions

1 - Should you pick it up and keep it or leave it where it lays?

2 - What could you do with it?

3 - How will it help you?

How to enter

Post a comment answering the above questions.

An Upvote and Resteem is greatly appreciated.

Purpose of this contest

1 - to have a little fun
2 - to get everyone to start thinking outside the box

In any type of emergency situation, the ability to see ways to use everyday objects in unusual ways could save a life or make your life much easier. Keep in mind, you don't have to use an object in its current form. It is perfectly fine to make adjustments as long as it is something you could feasibly do with limited resources.

Sort:
  1. I would pick it up.
  2. First of all this might be very valuable because seeing it is a kitchen tool it is probably resistant to corrosion. I might actually would consider using it for cooking. I can also taper the back end to a nail form, which would be a great weapon. Being corrosion resistant, I can also heat it and use it to sterilise my wounds if I ever would have to.
  3. One of the biggest differences between living in primitive and modern conditions is that in nature it is very difficult to find and shape hard materials to make strong equipment like metal tools. That is why it takes significantly longer to succeed even simple tasks like digging or sawing or building etc. Which means if you ever find yourself under primitive conditions you would want to pick up every piece of metal that you can; it might come in handy somehow. That being said, the most important benefit of a metal tool in general would be shaping wood. Under primitive conditions I would be relaying on wooden tools but wood is difficult to handle using only pieces of stone.

Very good ideas! You are obviously wearing your thinking cap today!

  1. I would leave it. Since it's been 5 years already since "IT" happened I am sure I would already have one if I wanted/needed one. Since there is only 3% of the worlds (previous) population alive there is likely more then enough of these for everyone to have 2 or 3 of them!

  2. If I had one of these I would likely be using it for cooking. I know this is a terribly unoriginal idea but since it was specifically designed for that job that is the job it will do best. If I needed a weapon I would have already gone and scrounged several of whatever I needed. The right tool for the job, after all.

  3. This item would not help me much and would be way down the list of things to acquire. Man has made many contraptions over the years. This item is one that has some only a small amount of practical value. Give me some rope, some clothes and a good knife and I'm good to go. I'll be collecting spatulas after I've found me a nice cabin with a working wood stove and then I'd use it for turning my food over. Sorry if that's too inside the box. If surviving is your goal in then dystopian future that is alluded too in this scenario, then spatulas would not be cluttering up my precious inventory space until I was otherwise "all set".

All bets are off though if the reason for our demise is we were invaded by the hamburger-head aliens from outer space.. in that case grab me that spatula pronto!

I honestly can't think of anything to say. All I can do is laugh at that last line, lol.

No, I would not pick it up!
By now, most of us including me have learned a set-up when we see one! Ha! After five years and they're still trying that old trick?! Everyone knows if you see something "shiny and new" just laying there on the ground you'd better back away from where you stand, and fast! There are 'bad ones' hiding just beyond your sight, waiting for you to let your guard down, waiting for you to bend down to retrieve the shiny, innocent-looking object from the ground. Especially these days when an object like that could come in handy. Ever since IT happened, the only way to cook anything is over an open fire. No electricity. Most of us have already created our preferred cooking methods and have all of the necessary tools, but a new one of those would still be a great find!
But NO; This lady will pass on the shiny object today! Be aware of your surroundings, and run!

hello @fernowl13.

  • yes, i will pick it up.
  • I would like to put it in a framed.
  • i will hang it as decoration in my kitchen. It would be like a rare antique that it gets beautiful overtime. (might be my future grandchildren will sell it by fortune after 50 years time :-)

Thank you for this contest.

1 - It's the end of the world I'ts shiny I can't not pick it up!
2 - not many people/things exist anymore. could be handy to barter with, it looks like it could be bent to make the ultimate end of the world portable 1 person open fire micro meal grill thingy haha
3 - for me it would serve as a reminder of days past when all mankind could own such a utensil, flipping food with a chef like precision. now sat here in the desolate wasteland swatting insects with it eat and revelling in the "swoosh" it makes cutting through the air to take my mind of the death and despair that rained down.

think its time for bed haha 🙃

No, I won't pick it up since it's been 5 years since IT and it looks still very new. It could be something alienatic thing.
I would have kept it and used it for fighting aliens on the way(if I come across any) ;)
It would surely help me as the world is almost demolished and there is nothing left and it can be used as a weapon as it looks like firm iron thing.
Also it can be used for clearing grass and plants in dense area or forest. As I would be crossing cities by walk to find out any humans surviving for help.
Wow, didn't knew I would write so much... Good contest :)

I would for sure pick it up its brand new and shiney and I don't know what it is but its shiney so it must be worth something and I could probably come up with some uses to trade it to someone for food or other tools

Oh don't even get me started on the uses where do i start, You could use it over the fire, slip your meat or veggies between the slits andg grill multiple pieces in no time

  • I could it to pry open windows or just break them so I can gain entry into places with possible resources
  • I could use it as a sun dail if i wanted to keep track of time
  • I coud use it as a brace in case of injury i could wrap my arm around it to keep it steady and in place
  • I could use it dig holes to find food or plant seeds !
  • Finally i can use it to crack open a cold one

This is really the swiss army knife of its time, so many uses

  1. I'll leave it. Obviously, it didn't just appear, someone must have dropped it. Must be a trap or something. I'll be careful

  2. I could use it for trade, to cook or as a light weapon.

  3. Serve as something to remind me of the past. Be useful for cooking and digging.
