Riddle me this!!
As my profile suggests, I'm a bit of an expert on pumps.
That being the case, I've got a fun riddle for you. Tell me what the OLDEST and MOST RELIABLE pump in the history of the universe is.
I've give you a hint, you can't get it from aisle 16 at Bunnings, and it contains no metal components. And its not this type.
Anyone that guesses correctly will get a prize. Don't know how good this prize will be yet, but lets see what happens.
Be sure to vote and resteem so everyone can get in on it.
The heart is my answer but someone beats me to it :(

I'm going to take a flier and say a set of lungs? They don't (often) break down, and can last over 100 years with very little maintenance if you look after them.
Thanks for the try mate. Good effort but not right. The lungs are more of a filter than a pump, but I 100% agree with what you say.
Was trying to think outside the box a bit. You can't inflate a balloon with a filter, but you can with a good set of lungs. I guess the function of the lung is a filter, but some of the mechanics could be explained as similar to that of a pump.
Ooooh!!!! The heart.... ? Am I completely off course here? You've got me thinking....
Heart, good work thats right. it actually pumps. The lungs don't pump, they are inflated and deflated by the movement of the diaphragm. But in saying that I can see how we could draw similarities.
Ha!! Got it!! True, the heart is a muscle and pumps under its own force, whereas the lungs need external force to expand and contract. Just as well I'm not a doctor!!
Was there a prize for this??
indeed, Send me a link to an article that you'd like upvoted by the new Discordia bot and I'll get it done for you. Sorry for being slow to get back to you.
Thanks! Oh that is no problem!

I would have to say a water pump. You probably need to know a specific type of water pump. I think it would be a piston pump.
The only other type of pump that I can think of that is very old and has no metal parts would be a plunger.
sorry mate, wrong and wrong.
Archimedes screw pump
sorry no thats not correct
