Disaster + Olympics = Disasterlympics
FUN AND LEARNING AT THE SAME TIME
The Los Baños Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office conducted its first ever Disasterlympics at Paciano Rizal Park, Baybayin Los Baños Laguna. This is in accordance with the Executive Order No. 137 and part of National Disaster Consciousness Month. This is a month-long campaign that features different activities; one of those is a competition which is basically a time and execution based challenge focuses on Basic First Aid and Basic Life Support, Basic Rescue Training, Basic Fire Rescue, Emergency Medical Response and Basic Knot Tying/Rope Rescue. Along the course of the challenge, there was a scenario where participants have to perform the activities and procedures mentioned above.

The program started with a parade from new Municipal Hall to Municipal Park, participants eagerly walked together with their advisers, Bureau of Fire protection (BFP), and the MRRDMO headed by Ms. Cynthia N. Quintans. Immediately after the parade, they started the opening program. Hon. Cesar P. Perez, graced the occasion, he mentioned that the activity is really intended for the students, so as to prepare them when disasters come. He also mentioned that it’s one of his advocacies; he is dreaming that in the future Los Baños would have zero or less casualties whatever disaster comes.
Meanwhile Ms. Cynthia Quintans, the MDRRMO coordinator, gave some reminders and words of encouragement to the participants. Before the competition begins, FC/Insp. Robert J. Banaag, introduced the working committee and explained the rules and regulations for the different events.
Participants were then given a short break to prepare for the competition proper. They were asked to strictly adhere to the rules set by the Steering Committee. Participants were also asked to wear protective equipment during the competition.
The event was participated by nine (9) public junior and senior high schools in Los Baños. It has two major events such as Emergency Medical Response which include BLS with CPR, splinting and bandaging patient packaging, etc. and Fire Suppression which features target shooting and bucket relay.

WE ARE THE CHAMPION
We joined for the very first time in a competition. There were 10 participants and a coach for each team. It was indeed a victorious and historical achievement of the school for we bagged most of the major awards during the competition. As their coach I am very proud of them. We were able to take home five thousand worth of first-aid kit and two thousand pesos in cash.
LET'S TEACH AND TRAIN THE YOUTH, THEY ARE OUR ASSETS IN EMERGENCY AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT!
