Fractal Writing Contest #2 - winners get to keep their souls! (and a few SBDs)

in #contest7 years ago

The first Fractal Writing Contest is over. There were three contestants, with great entries, but I think the best one was @drwatson's, a great idea for a new view on the age-old conflict of Good vs Evil... or Light vs Sea! You got to read the comment yourself, here.

The contest post expired with a reward of 0.789 SBD, so @drwatson gets the minimum of 1.000 SBD. The other two contestants get a small consolation prize for their participation, to celebrate the first contest of the series. Congratulations to all of them!

This week, the second installment of the Fractal Writing Contest will run.

The Contest

Each post in this contest series will contain a fractal, a 2-dimensional representation of a complex mathematical formula. The participants have to post a comment with something inspired by the fractal, be it just a title, a haiku, a story, whatever.

Rules

  • You have to reply with a comment in the contest post.
  • The reply must be inspired by the fractal, but no explanation needed.
  • Any kind of content is acceptable: just a title, a haiku, a poem, a short story, a painting, a photo, a video, a doodle, whatever. The content must be yours, no links to other people's work accepted.
  • I will pick the best reply, when the post expires (1 week after posting it).
  • The winner gets half the SBD made in the post, minimum 1 SBD.
  • Upvotes and resteems are welcomed, but not necessary to participate.

They came from the sky.

For centuries, we've been searching "magic" (with varying definitions and scopes) here on Earth, but never considered the idea of extraterrestrial lifeforms being capable of comprehending the concept.

So when they arrived, from above the clouds, it was too late.

(quick prompt about my first impressions)

Thanks, that is a great entry! Arthur Clarke (one of the most esteemed sci-fi authors) has devised a set of 3 Laws, and the Third Law is: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Congratulations, you are the winner of this contest, with reward of 2 SBD! Check out the new installment, Fractal Writing Contest #3.

Wow, thank you very much!

Cool idea for a contest :). My entry:

"And the wrath of burning heaven spins above their heads. And the end of days, the judgement is upon them for the sins of their fellow men," excerpt from Ptolsky's The Book of the Invasion, year the first of our rule by the OverLords.

It's judgement day indeed, seems the whole planet will suffer by these other-worldly entities! Thanks!

Yeah, I never read other entries for something like this before I've written mine, so it was very interesting to see that pretty much everyone saw an alien invasion 🙂

Ironically I was working on the artwork for a poem on fractal, so submitting that

Thanks for your submission, it is like a "blueprint" of the contest's fractal, like the paths on which the fractal's objects move!

The Elves are coming! The age of wonder is upon us! The heavens are changing!

And the delicate arabesque shape of Gil-Arohas-Tene's giant arsehole is seen in the sky surrounded by the five charming tushys of his elemental wives.

Lol! The five wives' charming tushies are like bottomless infested black holes -- in the most scientific & cosmological way, of course!

You could definitely put it that way, yes. I even put a hidden anagram into the thing to match the ornamental design.

Hahah, yes, now that you mention it it is obvious! When I saw the name is seemed a bit.. weird, like some Spanish Elven prince, arohas amigo! His lord father, Gil-Karoh Syn'tasee would approve of his son mingling with five tushies, I am sure...

I have been a bit ill, so my work speed has been painstakingly slow, but I haven't forgotten the Frozen Yoghurtoth. Right now though I want to make Gil-Arohas-Tene and his lord father.

You cannot forget the Yoghurtoth, no matter how hard you try. When the stars are right, its eldritch logo will appear through your actions. We have all the time in the world...

"The Alien Invasion"

Thanks for your contribution, this is also what my own first impression of the picture was!

Enjoy my first haiku since middle school:

Sky rings, swirly things
Minds blown wide, staring up high
Acid rain drops free

a nice haiku
with wise words
gives smiles

Right back at ya!

The universe is vast. The universe is so vast.
There are many Earth-like planets or maybe there are many other Earths. Parallel universes etc. We are not alone. We are surely not alone.
This is what I think, when I see the fractal image about the contest above.

It certainly has this "cosmic" feeling, of other realities and dimensions -- thanks for participating!

1000 Sorcerers of Imboteph have gathered under the sacred glow of the northern sky to combine their dark powers, open the Kal-Alarwin gates and bring forth the banished gods once again.

Thanks for the entry, I'd love to read a short story inspired by your comment, or some other comments here!

I agree and it seems that most are getting the same vibe from that image. Some aliens (ass) magic in the sky type thing.

And the day that we decided to blow apart the sky
was the day that we accepted the reality.
This synthetic world,
this patchwork sky,
is nothing more
than a complex study
to determine whether
we will ever figure out
how to use that fourth eye.

Thank you so much!
