Our first ever contest - National, State or City Symbols.

We are happy to make this our first contest and believe us, it is unique. Every Country, State or City have a symbol that represents it. People in different places know these symbols and what they represent. So we made this contest to be give all the opportunity to educate us about the symbols that represent their province, city, state or country.

To kick it off, @sccf wants to show you a national symbol in Nigeria and what it represents.

The Nigerian Coat of Arms

The Nigerian coat of arms is a well recognized national symbol in Nigeria. An untrained eye may look at at the image above and believe its an artwork of two horses, an eagle and some wreath. But this Nigerian national symbol is deep in meaning. Here is what each element represents:

1. A Red Eagle: The eagle on the coat of arms represents strength.

2. Two white horses: The two white horses represent dignity.

3. A black Shield with Y-shaped band: The black shield represents Nigeria's rich and fertile soil while the Y-shaped band stands for the two major rivers in Nigeria. They are rivers Niger and Benue meeting at the city of Lokoja.

4. The white and green wreath: This represents the white and green colours on the Nigerian flag.

5. The red flowers at the base: The red flowers are Costus spectabilis. The flowers are national flowers and are found all over Nigeria. This flower signifies beauty.

The motto of Nigeria: The motto of Nigeria is Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress

Now you know what all the elements in the Nigeria coat of arms represents. The coat of arms is found in Nigeria's currencies and other national property.

It is Your time to educate us - and earn!!!!*
