RE: Chilean Baptists and the State
Very interesting history of the Baptists. While I do not subscribe to a congregationalist perspective myself, it is very instructive how the evolution of the "wall of separation" between church and state was not to protect the state against the influence of the church as much as it was to protect the church from state encroachment and control. There is an Augustinian (and, I would suggest, biblical) understanding of "the City of God" and "the City of Man."
And kudos to the Chilean Baptists who avoided the offer of the government to hook them on federal aid!
Yeah, I was impressed, too, by their fortitude! Thanks for the comment.
