How to love your country when she doesn't love you?

in #country7 years ago (edited)

SteeMers hello again, but this time after my introduction post I will immediately throw myself into more serious topics.

Encouraged by a bad situation in my own country, I wonder what the situation is in your country?

To be precise, situation in my country – Croatia - is far from good. To be honest it's really bad and it's getting worse. The main problem is corruption, which of course is the worst way to destroy a country as a functional society (especially democracy and prosperity). Misuse of functions, bribery and nepotism became so rooted that they have become part of everyday life! But this is just the beginning of nightmare.

We have a problem with mass exodus overseas in search of a better life and a future and a problem with emigration of young talented people because here they can’t find a job (the job has only half of the population!).

We have big taxes on everything and everything, fictitious and crazy, but our wages are small, less or we do not get them at all.

We are constantly among the countries with the highest rates of poverty (every fifth child is poor).

Croatia, among the members of the European Union, is among those with the lowest level of social justice

Transparency of the institutions is at the very bottom (in these same institutions, people have no confidence at all).

Croatia is at the bottom of the European union gender equality.

In the end, with all the above mentioned things, we continue to live in the past, glorify the war (which has long since ended), spread hatred, suffocate democracy, and magnify conservative opinions. The Church is number one, entering into all of our aspects of life and interferes in our intimacy. Newspapers are full of family violence, a criminal is rarely or never been punished, digging on trash because of poverty, false diplomas, evictions from your own apartments because you do not have the money to pay a loan to a bank...

This is just a fraction of the system I live in.

Croatia is maybe beautiful, but only from the outside.

Tell me, what is your country struggling with? What's the worst thing to you?

Or, maybe you have some positive things you want to share about you country :)
