Wow. Just awesome. Exactly what drones were made for, to look STRAIGHT DOWN. The detail in this is absolutely outstanding. This image, called 'Above the Crabeater Seals' features a group of Crabeater Seals resting after a night time feed.
This baby was taken with a DJI Phantom 4 Pro+, which isn't a particularly expensive drone and it goes to show that its all about the photographers eye. Of course, also being in the right place at the right time!
Some celebratory words from the winner, Florian Ledoux:
“I am so excited to be chosen as the overall winner, I was never expecting this,” said Ledoux. “For me, it is very important to show the state of the Arctic and Antarctic regions, and to have an image from there win this award is important exposure.
“It is important that anyone inspired by this style of drone image understands the importance of wildlife and being ethical in your approach. Ensure that your drone does not spook animals or disturb them, and always conduct yourself within accordance of local regulations.”
What do you think of this image? What does it say to you? For me, it shows the fragility of the environment but also has a peaceful feeling. That of relaxation.
There is some amazing photography on this platform, some of which could easily be put to the test for a completion. Try it some time!
