Guide of Crete
Crete is a land of great history that can be traced back to the first myths and legends. According to Greek mythology, Cronus had several children with Rhea but swallowed them as soon as they were born because he believed that he was destined to be overcome by his own son, as he had done to his father. When Zeus was about to be born Rhea sought out a plan to save him so that Zeus would not be swallowed by his father as his siblings were. When Rhea gave birth to Zeus in Crete she handed to Cronus a rock wrapped in swaddling clothes making him believe that it was his unborn son which he immediately swallowed. Rhea then hid Zeus in the Diktaean Cave and spared his life from his father. As the years progressed fate came into play and Zeus received retribution for his siblings and overturned his father’s thrown. Zeus then became “The Father of Gods and Humans”.
