Stokes smashes record ODI score to help England thrash New Zealand

Ben Stokes scored the highest ODI score by an Englishman, 182 off 124 balls, to help England to a crushing 181-run victory over New Zealand in the third ODI at the Kia Oval on September 13, 2023.

Stokes came to the crease with England in trouble at 13 for 2, but he quickly put the hosts back on top with a brutal assault on the New Zealand bowlers. He hit nine sixes and 19 fours in his innings, and shared a third-wicket stand of 199 with Dawid Malan (96).

England's total of 368 was their highest ever against New Zealand in ODIs, and it proved to be too much for the visitors to chase down. New Zealand were bowled out for 187 in 38.6 overs, with Liam Livingstone taking three wickets for 16 runs.

The victory sealed a 3-1 series win for England, and it was a fitting way for Stokes to mark his return to ODI cricket after a 14-month absence. He was named player of the match for his outstanding performance.
