England batsman Tom Westley signs new Essex contract
England batsman Tom Westley has signed a new two-year deal with county champions Essex.
The 28-year-old played five Tests this summer but an average of 24.12 saw him overlooked for the Ashes squad and he will instead be part of the England Lions' tour to Australia.
Westley also played 11 times in Division One of the Specsavers County Championship, scoring two centuries and two half-centuries as Essex defied expectations to land the title.
The club's vice-captain, who made his debut for the club in 2006, will now remain at the County Ground until the end of the 2019 campaign.
"Winning the County Championship was just the start of that journey, and as a group of players we have spoken about creating a legacy that will be remembered for years to come," said Westley.
"To be a part of this team with my close friends and achieve the success we have had in the last two years is special, and it has given us all a hunger to continue to improve.
"My desire to improve myself is bigger than ever and I hope to continue contributing valuable runs and knowledge."
