A Dallas policewoman shot and killed her neighbor after making a mistake on her way home from her home service, police chief Renee Hall said on Friday. stop would be issued against her.

"Last night, a woman police officer from Dallas went into what she thought was her apartment after the end of her service-she was still in uniform when she got in touch with Botham Shem Jean in the apartment. ", according to statements by Renee Hall published on the police website.

"It is unclear what interaction occurred between her and the victim, and then at some point she fired her gun at the victim," said the Dallas PD chief.

"A very singular situation"
Transported to the hospital after the police officer contacted the emergency services around 10 pm, Mr. Jean died. He was 26 years old.

According to several US media sources, he was originally from the island of St. Lucia, in the Caribbean, and worked as an insurance risk analyst for PriceWaterhouseCoopers after graduating in 2016 from an Arkansas university.

If the first elements seemed to indicate the classic circumstances of a mortal fire by a policeman, "it became clear in the course of the investigation that we were dealing with something very different and a very peculiar situation".

An open investigation

The case no longer follows the protocol of a fatal shooting by a police officer, said the police chief, adding that blood tests would be conducted in search of possible drugs or alcohol.

Dallas police also called on the Texas Rangers to conduct an independent investigation.

"At this point, there are more questions than answers," noted Renee Hall, adding that the name of the policewoman involved would only be disclosed in the event of a charge.
