I have always found ASIC miners cheaper than the cost of GPUs which are not only seriously overpriced but also hard to come by. This for me is not a deal changer in that it will not make me buy this to mine ETH since to ROI is low today and would be even lower when it gets to the user. **I would be better of buying ETH at current price - almost 2 ETH without stress or having to waiting till July to start mining.

When people talk of centralization. I see a GPU farm with over a thousand GPU's mining more centralized than me just buying 1 or 2 ASIC miners.

The new ASIC miner will be compatible with Ethash, the Proof-of-Work hashing algorithm used by virtual currencies and will have 3 motherboards, with each motherboard containing 6 ASICs and 32GB of DDR3. The shipment of first chips, Rolland noted, is expected later this year.

Bitmain Confirms Release of First Ethereum ASIC Miners
Bitcoin mining hardware firm Bitmain unveiled its long-rumored ethereum mining tech on Monday. The Antminer E3 is set to ship this July, according to Bitmain's website, at a price of $800 per unit. According to statements, the company is limiting orders to "one unit per user" with restrictions on shipping to China and Taiwan. As was perhaps expected, the listing quickly drew interest from would-be buyers. As of press time, the website indicates that the first batch has already sold out.

i wouldnt mind being able to get my hands on a newer graphics card that doesnt cost an arm n a leg! My gaming performance/experience has gone down because i refuse to pay those ridiculous prices for retail...

Very interesting hypothesis on the thought they have already been working. If they were mining ETH and selling them on the market, then it could make sense given the decrease in price in the same time period. The interesting thing about the tech sector is that the community will figure out a solution to avoid a centralization of miners for the benefit and security of the network. It would be interesting to see what the Ethereum community would do from here. Either way, PoW based assets will have to think about this as quantum computing becomes closer to reality.
