Fake Crypto Purses Alert
The main disadvantage we can mention of the world of cryptocurrencies and their growing expansion is clearly the constant threat of attacks by hackers who always invent a new way to steal them.
This week the engineer Lukas Stefanko managed to identify four fake cryptocurrency purses in the Google Play Store application, which were shown as virtual wallets for Tether, Ethereum, NEO and MetaMask.
According to Stefanko, these applications were created to duplicate the data of the users' credit cards and their mobile banking credentials, and as soon as they detected them, they made it public on their blog and reported it to the Google security team, eliminating them. quickly.
From their research, the expert in cybersecurity, classified these purses in two groups classified as a phishing wallet, in the case of MetaMask, and fake wallets for the other three applications, but all created by the same person.
In the case of MetaMask, it works by requesting the user's private key and password from the wallet and then granting the client a public address but the key remained in the hands of the hacker, thus preventing the owner of the account from withdrawing the funds.
The malware specialist, in addition to this had previously recognized a list of 15 applications that contain a virus which include Allconvert, MyCookBook, Converto, CryptoWall, Coincheck, Sportify, Exchange Calculator Plus and several others.
