6. Paying with Crypto

“Currency as a means of expression, currency as a tool of language, is no longer up to the issuer. It is up to us as individuals making a choice to use that currency, and we give it value through our use.”

– Andreas M. Antonopoulos

Keep up!

Although we currently have apps that let you receive and pay instantly via your mobile, they tend to not always be reliable enough. There have been numerous occasions that the app shuts down, mostly because of “tech failure”, whatever that may be.
Even the large credit card companies have suffered with ‘tech failures’ leaving people unable to pay their purchases. What we then see is large groups of people heading over to the ATMs to try to withdraw cash as soon as possible. And at the same time we are more and more turning into a society that is forced/driven to become more and more cashless.

When you think of the times you’ve tried to take out a larger sum of money, or wanted to buy an expensive item, the bank has to agree before you can take action or denies you the money.

When apps and credit cards are controlled by centralised companies, they will always have the control of our money. This has to change; we want to be in charge of our own money and make the decision to do something with OUR money whenever we choose to. To us, it is so old fashion and quite dictatorial to have to ask for permission to use our own money….. it feels like we’re children who have to ask their parents for permission.

It’s not just a revolution, it’s a revelation

Satoshi Nakamoto gave us the ultimate solution to these problems: it’s very low fees, it’s instant, it’s very safe and there is no need anymore for third parties. We’re talking crypto 🙂

Crypto is programmable money. It gives us the possibility to send money from one part to another in just an instant, at a very low cost. The system of digital currencies has no banks, no central control and is .available for everybody. We can all use it without having to ask for permission.

Now imagine what that means for the billions of people that don’t own a bank account. Millions and millions of them are left outside of the economic system. That is going to change. Crypto is going to connect billions of people to the global economic system and the only thing they need is a mobile phone.

This is about empowerment, and no longer about charity. This is about hope, self-worth and self-esteem. This is about introducing a whole new way of life for those that thought that the only thing that was left for them was trying to survive.

If you don’t use it, you lose it

Many of us want to buy as much coins as we can. Now, investing in some crypto’s could be a good thing for the future when those assets can serve a purpose: investing in all kinds of projects, preferably for the greater good of every individual. But for crypto to expand and to be used like it was intended to be, we have to start to pay with it.

A lot of people hold on for dear life (HODL) and just sit on their cryptocoins, afraid of spending (a fear of letting go) of their precious coins and anxiously looking at the curves. They do not realise that hodling (yes! it’s a new verb) it will decrease the value of any cryptocurrency. It is the market that decides the value, but if there aren’t people paying, buying and selling with crypto that same market will collapse.

Where can I pay with Crypto?

We visited TacoPop in Oslo a few weeks ago and payed for our meal in Crypto.
Here are a few places in Norway that accept bitcoin, bitcoincash or litecoin:

Tacopop

Kaffebox.no
Psykolog G. Gjermundsen
https://www.thekasbah.no
http://superfoodbutikken.no

In Sweden and Denmark:

http://brisingasmycket.se/
https://www.facebook.com/BarFoxx
https://www.alternativhalsan.nu/

You can find more companies and shops that accept crypto worldwide here:

https://acceptbitcoin.cash/

So be bold, ask shops and companies if you can pay with crypto.

Next time you go out to have some dinner, have something to drink, want to buy a magazine or book a summer holiday, ask the shop or company if you can pay with crypto. We can all be ambassadors in this crypto adventure, and you never know what the answer will be. Hey, this could even be the beginning of a very interesting talk with some new friends.

And remember, the more we use it, the sooner we will reach our goal:
each individual becoming their own free, independent banking system.
